It's been a while.

It's been a while.

I had a bit of a shock today. My husband often forwards me emails that are pertinent to me or his career. So, when my phone dinged with an email from him, I didn't think much of it. About 20 minutes later I glanced at my phone and saw the word USAREC. That's United States Army Recruiting.

David was a recruiter for 3 years. It was a really rough time in our marriage, we ended up discussing divorce. David dealt with some intense alcoholism. It was a very rough time for us. So, obviously, seeing those words in an email made me scratch my head.

I dove into reading it and turns out the Army is desperate for Recruiters. Sure, they can pull people from their current position and make them be a recruiter, but that often leads to low morale. So, they're currently offering a bit of a monetary bonus for past recruiters to step up and do recruiting for one more year. Actually a substantial monetary bonus. Not to mention the usual special duty assignment pay. AND volunteers will get a better shot at their location of choice.

David forwarded me the email he sent to the people in charge, basically stating his rank, his current position, and that he was a recruiter during such and such time period. That he is interested in volunteering, but wanted a bit more information.

At first I was very upset by it. It genuinely took such a toll on our marriage that I just couldn't imagine going through it again. I was upset that he didn't speak with me about it before shooting off that email. Not that I have any say, really. But at the same time, we have always been a team and he's not one to usually make a snap decision without chatting with me. It does have an impact on me, obviously. I love living here, love our house, and being back in the South in general. And if he does it, 1.5 years after getting here we'll be up and moving again. And it makes me feel absolutely sick to my stomach.

But he assures me that he would do everything possible to keep us in the South. Preferably Georgia or Florida.

It's just such an up in the air thing now. We'll see where the winds of the military take us.

I mean, I get it. He's 4 years from retirement. If he does it, and he gets the bonus that would wipe out our extra debt (ya know, the debt that isn't car related!). Which would be nice because then he'd go into retirement without having to worry about how we're gonna pay the credit card bill, or whatever. Plus, he'd be able to get back into school and have a degree set aside for career number 2. Obviously, he'll still be on the younger side of life when he retires, so 39 years old isn't such a horrible age to start career number 2.

I don't know, we'll see. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best. Believe it when you have hard copy orders. Can't stop time. Those are our Army mottos.

Anywho, I'm working again. It's horrible and I hate it. I had a part time job in Colorado, but it was the part-iest of part time jobs, in that I got maybe 10 hours a week. This is a true part time job, I'm working 25-30 hours weekly. My back hurts, my feet hurt, and retail can go eat a bag of dicks.

Bath time calls. Calgon take me away.
