3 weeks since i've written. how does time get away from me like this?
the element in our oven broke a couple of weeks ago. of course our oven is one of the few for which a universal element won't fit, so what should have been a quick fix turned into a few days of ordering/waiting for parts and stovetop/bbq cooking. but, i got it fixed in the end, and was pretty proud of myself for getting shit done. sometimes being a homeowner still intimidates me, but sometimes it makes me so proud.
sophie is all caught up on her shots. she had her last set of booster shots this week, as well as her rabies shot. she weighs 21 lbs and the vet is happy with her. most importantly, her heart murmur seems to be gone! she'll be spayed in april, and they'll give her heart a really good listen when she's under anesthetic, but it seems that we're in the clear; it was an innocent puppy murmur after all.
we've taken sophie to the dog park a couple of times, and visited my brother's dog. sophie LOVES to run and play with other dogs, even if she's always the smallest one there. she gets knocked around a little from time to time, but gets up and goes back for more, so i'm not worried about her. she's so damn cute chasing the other dogs around, all "play with me! play with me!". one of these days she won't be the smallest, and then she can really go nuts.
my big, huge, potentially awesome news, is that i have a job interview on monday. not only is it an interview, but it's an interview for a position in xray, in our city. i have been applying constantly to everything they post for months, the last time being for a part-time position that closed in january, so i was happily surprised when they called me wednesday afternoon and basically said "we got your application for that part time position, and we can't offer that right now but we have casual coming up and would like to meet". this is awesome on many levels:
1. it gets my foot in the door. [in my line of work, it isn't common to start with a permanent full-time position; most places promote internally, so everyone starts at the bottom and works their way up. i fully expected i'd have to pay my dues.]
2. they called me about an unposted future position, so either they really like my qualifications, or they've realized that i'm just going to keep applying until they interview me. either way, i'm happy.
3. if i am hired now, i will beat out new grads who are able to start work in june, giving me the upper hand on seniority.
4. a casual position would let me ease back into this whole "working" thing. it would also be good for sophie, since right now she's used to having me home all the time.
5. now that i have full drug and dental coverage thru josh, i can happily make more money with the cash in lieu of benefits that most casual contracts offer.
and so on. now, i'm trying not to get too far ahead of myself. and i'm actually very nervous about the interview. but it's a great opportunity! and the first real hint of anything since i moved here. so, monday, 10 am, please cross your fingers for me?
and now, because it's getting to be habit, here are some pictures of sophie:

[she was pretty into watching the usa/canada semi-final hockey game today]

That sucks about the oven. I love being a homeowner but when things go wrong it sucks having to she'll out all this $$! We had a fungus problem (under the house) last ear and the treatment was $700! But it's gone now so it was worth it.

Congrats in the job interview!!! I hope you get it. I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Sophie is too cute.

Pretzel salad is AMAZING in a pan, that's what it is. lol It's a three layer dessert. The first layer is crushed pretzels and butter (so it holds together) and sugar. The second layer is cream cheese, sugar, and whip cream. The final layer is strawberry jello and strawberries. It is great. You cook the crust for 8 minutes at 400. It is SO GOOD! lol One of my favorites.

Nope. No nicknames. Quinten and I will also correct anyone who calls him anything other than William. If he wants one when he gets older, fine, but so long as we have a say in it, it'll be William.
