I think I LIKE being alone.

As I get older, sex is just not nearly as important as it was when I was in my 20s - and if I do want it, I can take care of myself far better than when I'm with the man who IS in my life. And having a close friend that I can really open up to is becoming far more important to me than sex or even a romantic partner.

So even though I do have a man, I'm starting to think I might be happier alone. He's really an overgrown teenager anyway, and I find I'm losing patience with a lot of things he does (like comic book collection, roleplaying games, etc).

Many people, esp. in American culture (I'm American), may think this is very strange and possibly even mentally unhealthy, to be happy being alone. Yet I find solitude to be hugely peaceful.

I can definitely understand that. Some people do better on their own, and they still have full and satisfying lives. Do what is best for you no matter what others think.

I can totally see where you're coming from. I really think that our culture puts way too much importance on the idea that being single is a bad thing, and it makes people feel like crap for being alone. Gah.

I had a friend in High School, who always said "I'm going to move to Mongolia and just live in solitude forever in a yert with a goat or something." everyone just laughed but today, he gave up Mongolia for China and lives by himself in a small home with bare essentials. He loves every second of it.

I see the merits in being alone, but sometimes it's nice having another warm body in bed.
