It's really hard to get out of depression on your own. Especially if you sit around your house all day, that will only make it worse because you're seeing the same scenes day in and day out, breathing the same air.

What I suggest is to take it slow. Going for a walk in the morning will help motivate you to be more active throughout the day.

You could also call up some old friends and family and see what everyone has been up to. Maybe make a plan to get together with some people.

But at first I would suggest taking a walk, maybe even two or three (Even walks will do wonders for your sleeping habits, making you get more of a good nights rest.). Just getting out of the house, making your legs move and your body work will help you immensely.

After awhile, once you're feeling more confident, I would suggest looking for a job, no matter what kind of a job it is. Going out right now wouldn't be very wise because you're going to be emanating a negative atmosphere. I know it sounds hard and corny, but going into your job interview, and eventually your new job, with a genuine smile every day will help to make your life more tolerant, and eventually, more happy and fulfilled. Just think of something that once made you really, truly happy. The sort of memory that made you throw your head back and laugh, or giggle to yourself.

We're the same age and this sort of thing has helped me a lot. I used to not even have the motivation to get dressed at all. I would just lounge around the house all day in my pj's. But, these small exercises really do help, and like I said, the first step to getting out of your depression could be as easy as taking a walk.
