Sugar, Sweet Sugar

There Are Also ShoesWEDNESDAY
21st June 2017, 8.26 PM.

Dear, oh, dear, Hari Raya's about to swing by pretty soon and I am not ready for the amount of socialising required. Nor am I prepared for school, which is reopening in a week. I've spent so long cooped up at home and I doubt talking to the mirror has preserved what little social skills I possess. Erm, not that I talk to the mirror, of course, why on Earth would you possibly think that? >.>"

We (that is, my family and I) went out to shop for shoes today. My shoe wardrobe is sorely lacking in variety, and by "sorely lacking", I mean I own only one pair of black leather PVC shoes that I wear for literally everything - school, casual outings, formal outings, you name it. Not that I have anything against it. They are pretty comfy and they're waterproof, a feature that I very much appreciate. However, my mom insisted on getting me new shoes for Hari Raya, as she does every year, and I obliged. I'm not sure what happened to the previous year's shoes, or the year before that, for that matter. They keep disappearing for some reason. Actually, they might still be there but their condition probably deteriorated to the point that my mom deemed them unfit for celebratory wear. Is that the right term? Anyway, I do have a couple of boots, but one has its leather peeling off it and the other pair is fitted with fur, which I'm scared to wear for fear of rain. I usually avoid non-waterproof shoes but I was too caught up in the prospect of owning actual boots at the time of purchase.

So I got a couple pairs of new shoes today! A pair of dark blue leather pumps and a pair of high-heeled black sandals. I'm not a fan of high heels, honestly - I've heard stories of heels snapping off leading up to twisted ankles and I just find it impractical? Like, what's the point of having high heels? I guess it's understandable when you're short and want to look taller but don't your heels ache from being forced into that angle for so long? Plus, it increases the chance of tripping over your own feet. I made an exception this time, though, since the other sandals I wanted (which had no heels) weren't available in my size and the heels weren't too bad. At the very least, they weren't the kind that had super thin heels and a ridiculously steep arch. Why anyone would torture their feet like that remains a mystery to me.

In other news of our preparations for Hari Raya, my mom has, once again, made her infamous cookies! Man, it's only been like three days and nearly half the container's been emptied out. Into where, you ask? Straight into the bellies of my brother and I, of course! Not nearly as good as last year, though - they didn't have those gooey chocolate chips in them, which is my favourite part, but my mom said it was because she'd use a smaller kind of chocolate chips. Oh well. It's still good, though! She used the Famous Amos recipe (or a recipe based off it since I'm not sure if a confectionery's allowed to hand out their recipes. Probably not. They'd go out of business.) but it's altered enough that it retains a not-so-sweet, original taste. Mmm. They're good, I tell ya. My brother and I really have to slow down our consumption of them, though. They're mainly meant for the guests.

...Right, like we have any self-control, HAH.

Speaking of goodies, I've recently found a type of candy that's similar to those strips of sour gummies you see in stores all the time and they're called Extreme-Z! You know the best part about them? They're halal!! Alhamdulillah! The only problem is that I can't seem to stop myself from inhaling one entire roll at a time. I've got a bit of a sweet tooth.

By the way, if this layout seems a liiiittle bit different, that's because I tweaked the code a bit. I find it less distracting when the background's in the, well, background, instead of backing the text area. It was fun to figure out which bits of code went where! Not for the first time, I'm considering learning to code one day. Nothing big, just the little things like HTML or BBC.

Well, that's all I've got for today, folks! Ciao~

Thanks for reading!Sx3.Layouts
