I've been looking over my Book Collection recently and I've come to the conclusion that I clearly have no idea how to pick books. 
Whenever I'm stalking one of those book discussion forums online, the people there seem to know their stuff when it comes to their reading material. By that, I mean that they're familiar with the author's writing style, or are just aware of who they're talking about. This may come across as the norm for you, but my whole life, as silly as it may seem, I've never really bothered to take note of the people behind the books, nor have I kept close tabs on works that may be similar to the ones I read. There are only the occasional authors that whose books are impactful enough that I bother to remember them. For instance, there's Richard Adams who wrote the amazing Watership Down, who took a typical children's book setting and cleverly merged it with more mature themes, all the while still leaving the story engaging for both young and old readers alike (if you ignore the violence in some scenes, that is~  ). And there's Erin Hunter, whose compelling book sagas I have yet to fully collect. Let's not forget James Lee - I just love the continuous, ever intriguing plot of his Mr Mystery series (also I'm sorry but Mr Midnight is just a complete turn-off for me  ).
The point is, when I walk into a book store or go to a book sale, I don't have a clue what book I'm going to buy. Sad to say, I am indeed one of those people who judges a book by its cover; I'm more likely to pick a book up with that has an interesting cover design than one that doesn't appeal to me at first glance. Most of my books are not from well-known authors (I think) or even have consistent authors. I'm not sure how to describe it. It's..."messy", in a sense? (They're all very well arranged and dusted, though, and are definitely not in horrible, cluttered piles. I shudder to think of treating my books in such a manner.) I guess what I'm really trying to say is that I don't take up as much interest into the authors and their other work. The only author that I've even taken the effort to really look into is Roald Dahl and that's only because tidbits on him are scattered in the backs of his books and I've got both of his biographical books, BOY and Going Solo. It's a shame. I can tell I'm missing out on a lot. 
On another note, I've been debating on how to respond to comments. I'm usually more comfortable on replying to a comment on my Journal because then the conversation can flow smoothly, allowing the reader to simply scroll down to see how the conversation pans out. On the other hand, I feel like it's more...polite (?) if I were to respond to a comment by going to the commenter's Journal and replying there. I mean, I know I'm happy whenever I see that I've gotten a new comment, whether it's simply a response to one of my comments on another diary or otherwise, so I figure that taking the effort to go to a commenter's diary to reciprocate would have the same positive effect on the person, right? I don't know.
Apropos of nothing, I've got to get my brother something. His birthday was a week ago and I didn't get him anything. I feel bad. It wasn't on purpose, though! I'd thought his birthday was on another day. Ahahah...needless to say, I was caught off-guard and as it is, it's the month of Ramadhan so I don't really feel like leaving the house much. He got me a couple packets of sandwiches on my birthday from 7-11 and that might not seem like a big deal to most people but hey! I appreciate food, okay? Plus, those sandwiches were great. I've decided on buying him something once Hari Raya's come and I feel more inclined to get out of the house but I'm not sure what to get him. He's a simple guy so I know I don't have to splurge or anything. I was thinking on a comfortable tee shirt or maybe a couple slices of instant pizza from 7-11. I know he's been wanting to try those out. Hm. Oh well, I'll see what Bishy-Bush has to offer. Whoa, nostalgic nickname much? Haven't mentioned that place in a while.
