Now I don't normally comment on Bloop and the things that go on around here. However I feel I need to point out that yes loads of people have lost a lot of entries, myself included (about 3 to 4 years I think although I can't guarantee it). Thing is it's just words surely if anything meant that much or was precious to you, you would remember it anyway? I'm annoyed that I lost all my formatting but hey I can make it again. As for the people who leave me comments I only have a rough idea who half of you are lol. Needless to say if I have left you a comment I know who you are!
The problem with Bloop is it's generosity. However it's a bit of a dumb thing to do. Do you a) Want to pay for having a diary or b) Have it free and not as many options. Obviously most people are going to say "Well gee Bob if I can get the milk without having the cow then I'll go for that." Yes I did donate to Bloop in the early days before anyone starts. However with the myriad of diary choices out there most people know that they can pretty much go anywhere they want. There are also loads of sites who offer a free website as long as you have their name slapped into an unreasonably long hyperlink.com. The big problem for Bloop are these crashes, many people take their diary as a digital equivalent of their memoirs. As I said surely if it's that important then keep a hard copy. Bit of advanced thinking get a Notebook (No not the laptop) and pen/pencil/quill (delete as preference) and write things down when you want a permanent record. I'm currently writing a novel, but I'd be stupid not to have a hard copy.
Bloop in the early days was a reliable site and probably wasn't nearly so hungry for bandwidth and other such things. As it became more bloated on it's success, crashes started happening. The recent one knocking my diary out for two weeks. Most of the diarists on my list had already made a swift departure from Bloop to LiveJournal, Facebook, Myspace and the rest. My favourites list has halved. A sign of the times? Has Bloop become an unmanageable dinosaur or does it simply need a hypodermic full of cash in it's scaly hide?
I have ran and moderated a few websites in my time. Nothing complicated like Bloop, I just did for the passion I have for media (sounds so much better than sitting on arse watching films or standing (I have a Wii!) playing computer games). I didn't need paying it was fun. But all good things come to an end. Needless to say my friends have my contact details so if Bloop disappears into Proxy server 404 page access denied type the correct URL hell, then what truly matters is your friends. I'll be no worse off I have other places to rant and be silly. The only thing I miss at the moment is msn messenger as the library have uninstalled it the b***********.
