(shifts eyes side to side) Still Alive. I Think.

09/25/2010

Maybe I should feel more of a relief at finally getting a few things back (mainly the Internet), but as I have mentioned before, in all actuality, I haven’t missed it as much as I thought I would. Yes, there were some moments when I truly wished that I had something more entertaining than just the dvds (I have quite a few of them but after two and a half months of only having them to watch you do get a bit tired of re-watching the same twenty ones) to keep myself amused. With no internet and no television, I was relying on all the books I can borrow from work but slowly my attention waned over that as well. Unfortunately, even history books couldn’t keep it, and so the biography on Pol Pot has fallen to the wayside. I was hoping to actually get a really good run in on those kinds of books, Mao being the next, but with television to now keep me going… I have a feeling that I won’t.

Damn it. I was hoping to actually do something worthwhile in way of my reading (it has really lingered down to nothing more than chick lit and thrillers [I picked up a Slawter a day ago and I’m further in on that one than the Pol Pot I picked up over a week ago, damn it] ) since I was getting my television back. After over two and a half weeks of waiting to get UPC in on a day that I wasn’t working (the previous date was a day I was supposed to have off but then the manager told me that he needed me in so I couldn’t), I was hoping to not immediately immerse myself only in the television, especially as I have managed over two months with none of it. But nope. Same old, same old me.

Television on and the book uselessly by my side.

The cable guy has only been gone for three hours and I still haven’t done anything but watch it (other than a quick visit to the shop [Aldi, thank goodness for it as money is tight I can’t even afford to go to Dunnes] earlier on). And of course, spend the customary time to calm the cat down. She took great offense to someone she didn’t know being in the apartment, and even more to the fact that it was a tall guy. She does not men who seem to take up too much space. I had her locked up in my bedroom, but the sound of the drill and his footsteps were enough to set her off. When I finally let her out, she hissed at me and refused to let me touch her for two hours. I, of course, like the idiot I am, spent that time trying to calm her down and pay as much attention to her as possible. She only settled down after two hours, and now she’s curled up by my side, meowing every now and then when I make it look as though I may move, and she will lose her position on me and the warmth.

Blasted cat.

Anyway, these rambles are just to declare that I am still alive, and that I have moved into my lovely, comfortable apartment. It’s clean (I did a huge over-haul of the entire place because the cable guy was coming in) and tidy (same reason), and warm, as the heating for the entire building comes on at six, until ten. I’ve snuggled up on the couch (with my bed pillow for my back because the couch is so deep), cat by my side and watching Ms. Marple.

I’ve missed that.

Kya
