It was my first day back at work yesterday after having 9 off. It's always hard dragging myself back in after having time off. It wasn't too bad though, really quiet and i managed to catch up with everything. We hardly had anyone staying and we had no functions on, so the hotel was pretty empty.
I work in this really old mediaeval hotel, parts of it date back to 1150. It's really lovely though and the rooms are beautiful. It doesn't bother me working in such an old place, i'm used to it now that i've been there over 7yrs. Everyone always asks does it not feel a bit spooky working late at night there. I suppose to someone new it might but i'm really not bothered. The only part i don't like is this really old mediaeval hall we have where we hold banquets and weddings.
The whole hotel is supposed to be haunted, but that building is the worst.

The alarm goes off quite often in that building, for no reason at all, mainly when it's all locked and no one is in there. It's always in one part of the offices upstairs too. We've had people out to see if there's any faults but they can never find anything. Everyone just assumes it's a spider running across the panel or dust setting it off seeing as the buliding is pretty old.

Last night, around 10.30pm, we were talking about all of this and then no longer than 10 minutes later the alarm suddenly goes off. No one was in there, the building was all locked and had been all night.

Then i heard that the last time it went off, and the night reception guys went over to have a look, footsteps could be heard coming from upstairs, although it was 3am and no one was up there. There was also a real faint smell of candle wax, as though someone had walked past with a candle and then a faint smell of burning. They looked around everywhere and there were no lit candles or any signs of a fire. Just as the night guys were going to lock back up again, they got a real cold draft come over them.

I didn't really believe much of it at first, but then a few other people have mentioned the same sort of things happening over there. Then i heard that there used to be a sound and light engineer who worked over there, but he sadly died on the way to work one day going back years ago. Apparently he was a real practical joker and people think it might be him haunting the building.

I know i won't be going over there again in a hurry!
