What do you make of this chart?

It demonstrates how many people you are likely to have been contaminated by, assuming the person you are sleeping with has had the same number of partners as yourself. Scary, huh?

Well I have slept with one inexperienced bloke, one virgin and one whore, so who knows what my total is ;D

But, this would be good to show during sex ed classes.

Formula: if x is the number of people you've had sex with, then number of people you've been exposed to = (2^x) - 1.

That's the formula the chart is using but it's not correct. As it assumes everybody else has the same number of partners as you (which would obviously include you) it should be x^2.

x(x-1) for all the 2nd degree connections, and then another x for the 1st degree connections. x(x-1)+x = x^2

That is, unless it's not counting your 1st degree connections, because they're only giving you what they've picked up from their partners. Then it's just x(x-1).

Of course, even then you're not taking into account the fact that all of your 2nd degree connections have 3rd degree connections, etc etc. Probably more realistic would be x((x-1)!).

Maybe. I dunno, I haven't done extensive surveying into the 'average' number of sexual partners. Pretty safe to say that chart is probably an underestimate though.

Okay, so not the stuff about x(x-1) and x((x-1)!) which thoroughly hurt my brain, but about it having to be an underestimate! My husband was my second sexual partner, however I was his fifth, and I'm sure it differs in that respect with each sexual couple.. it would almost always have to be an underestimate.

I've often thought about this and the number I slept with isn't high by any means, but it still grosses me out to think about. Don't know what to think about this chart though..yuck.

well, i've only had sex with two people and of them only one of them had had another partner, so that three is actually accurate for me haha. even the little graphic of the two guys and a girl.

I've had sex with two people. One was a virgin. One was certainly not, however he was 15 at the time so I don't think he had time to rack up a huge list.

The message to this is: Only corrupt virgins! Don't touch anything else! That suits me fine. ;D

So.. how does that math work out? If I have two partners, and each of those has had two partners, I've actually been exposed to 4 people, surely? And three would be 9.. They seem to only be counting your own partners as one :S

So, how about that safe sex eh? And by safe, I mean basically not just jumping into bed with randoms.

lol well not necessarily, but I am happy I've only been exposed to the sexual partners of my choosing and not half the world ;)
