Because Obama isn't affiliated with their party. And they must hate him for that reason.

I thought the speech was pretty good. Coming from a tougher background lends him a lot of credibility when he's talking about overcoming challenges.

Then again, I don't understand the mentality of not wanting to listen to both sides of the story - you can't brainwash anyone in a single speech. Children will hear things you disagree with all the time - I think it's better to be open and honest and discuss it. That way they'll be better armed to defend their own point of view if someone challenges it, and let's face it, it will happen at some point in their lives. Why not get them used to other people thinking differently now?
