A while ago, Puck asked this in her diary and I just remembered it now and thought it would make an interesting forum topic.

So... What's wrong with your body?

Mine:
PCOS (but on medication for it and am pretty much as 'recovered' as you can be)
Short sighted
Astigmatism
Pigeon toed (I walk with my feet pointing inwards... I went to the hospital for this when I was a kid and it's apparently 'psychological')

Knock-knee
Semi-flat footed

Immune system shot

Hahaha, oh this should be fun!:
Epileptic
Mitral Valve Prolapse with irregular heart rhythms and tachycardia
Hip bursitis (resulting in my being pigeon toed my entire life!)
Immune system deficiency
Loose/inadequate joints (resulting in four knee surgeries and one shoulder reconstruction)
Astigmatism in both eyes
I almost always have UTIs, likely a urethra problem, but I've never really had it checked out
Restless leg syndrome
Hypoglycemia which is somehow related to my seizures
TMJ issues, my jaw pops all the time, just on the right side
I don't know if thats all.. I might have to come back and add more later :p. Oh, and most of my organs that are "useless" have been removed (appendix, gallbladder, my tonsils literally ate themselves away when I was young from getting strep throat as much as I did...).

GOSH, WHAT KIND OF SEIZURES DO YOU GET, AND HOW DO THEY MAKE YOU HAVE HYPOGLYCAEMIA? I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THE TWO BEING RELATED - THAT IS INTERESTING, YO.

I have grand mal seizures, although I have had one "staring seizure" where nothing happened physically, but I just wasn't there. They've also never really been able to link the epilepsy with the hypoglycemia either and they might not even be linked at all. My blood sugar plummits right before I have a seizure and during a seizure. They didn't realize this until I want to say my third seizure, but ever since I started having seizures, I've had blood sugar problems. My neurologist said that it could likely be they both developed at the same time and it was just coincidence. Every time I've had a seizure, it's been right after I feel my blood sugar drop, but that could just be, like he said, coincidence.

GOSH, THAT IS INTERESTING - IF DR HOUSE WERE REAL, HE WOULD TOTALLY FIND THE REASON! ;D MAYBE THEY ARE HYPOGLYCAEMIC SEIZURES, YO, RATHER THAN EPILEPTIC SEIZURES (HEHE - I JUST GOOGLED 'HYPOGLYCAEMIA EPILEPSY' AND FOUND ALL KIND OF FORUMZ TALKING ABOUT HYPOGLYCAEMIC SEIZURES GETTING MISDIAGOSED AS EPILEPTIC SEIZURES! BUT THERE DOES SEEM TO BE A LINK BETWEEN HYPOGLYCAEMIA AND SEIZURES, WHICH IS INTERESTING).

Hmm, interesting... would it be reasonable to say that the seizures might be triggered by your blood sugar levels dropping? Do you make a conscious effort to keep your levels up, and if so, has that helped?

Look at me, trying to be all doctorish. xD

LOL. Yes, that could also be what is happening. And I do try to keep my blood sugar levels from dropping as much as possible. I always carry chocolates or hard candies on me so if I feel it coming on (now that I KNOW what it is), I can stop it from happening. And, of course, after I eat the candies and feel more stabilized I always go for something more beneficiary to my levels like orange juice or cheese crackers or something ;-D.

I think the 'staring seizures' are called 'petit mal'... are they the ones you're talking about?

Also, I continue to be intrigued. xD Do you get any other symptoms before a seizure? Auras? Hallucinations? Do you smell weird things? xD

Actually, I'm not sure. Since I've only had ONE of those, my doctor didn't go into details about it like he did about all of the grand mal seizures I've had.

Be intrigued away! The only symptoms I get before a seizure are sudden extreme dizziness, weakness, and shaking.. just like feeling my sugar drop any other time. I know it's coming, however, and now can stop it from happening. I've not had a seizure in a LONG time!

OOH - I GET DIZZINESS, WEAKNESS AND SHAKING! I GET IT UNDER FLUORESCENT LIGHTS. IT HAS CAUSED ME TO GO ALL WEAK AND WOBBLY AND HAVE TO SIT DOWN WHEN IN THE SUPERMARKET OR IN THE POST OFFICE. I DON'T GET SEIZURES THOUGH, AT LEAST NOT THAT I KNOW OF. I DO ZONE OUT THOUGH - LIKE, WHERE I STOP BEING AWARE OF SURROUNDINGS, AND PEOPLE ARE SAYING MY NAME AND WAVING THEIR HANDS IN FRONT OF MY FACE AND I DON'T NOTICE THEM AND THEN I SNAP BACK INTO AWARENESS AS IF NOTHING HAPPENED. I SUPPOSE THAT COULD POTENTIALLY BE AN ABSENCE, BUT THEN IT'S ALSO A TYPICAL AUTISM SPECTRUM THINGY, AND ALSO CAN BE JUST A DAYDREAM TYPE THING TOO, SO WHO KNOWS. MY DOC SAID IF I WERE TO HAVE TESTS, THEY'D BE INCONCLUSIVE AND THEY'D JUST HAVE TO WRITE 'SUSPECTED EPILEPSY' ON MY RECORDS AND THAT WOULD BE VERY UNHELPFUL TO MY LIFE. HOW DID YOUR DOC FIGURE OUT THAT YOUR ABSENCE WAS A SEIZURE?

Fluorescent lights mess with me also and have also caused me to have to lie or sit down in stores. He actually could only ASSUME my "staring seizure" was actually a seizure based on my previous epilepsy diagnosis (via EEG) and the descriptions my husband gave. It's been the only one that I've had.

WE CALL THOSE 'ABSENCES' AT WORK, YO. DO THEY STILL CALL THEM 'GRAND MAL' AND 'PETIT MAL' IN THE DOCTOR WORLD? LIKE, WE GOT TOLD THAT THOSE TERMS ARE NOW NOT USED, AND THAT INSTEAD SEIZURES ARE DESCRIBED BY SYMPTOMS. I SHOULD ASK TO GO ON SEIZURE TRAINING - LIKE, GOSH, ON ONE SHIFT I WAS TOLD TO HELP ONE GIRLY GET UP AND SHOWERED AND THEY TOTALLY DIDN'T TELL ME SHE GETS SEIZURES, AND SHE TOTALLY HAD ONE AND I JUST THOUGHT SHE WAS BEING SILLY, BECAUSE SHE IS ALWAYS BEING SILLY AND SHE IS NON-VERBAL SO COULDN'T TELL ME ANYTHING WAS WRONG. AND THEN I GOT TOLD OFF FOR NOT TIMING IT, AND ALSO FOR NOT READING HER NOTES - LIKE, GOSH, IT WAS A 2 HOUR MORNING SHIFT, IT WAS THE FIRST TIME I'D WORKED WITH HER, AND I WAS TOLD TO GET HER UP RIGHT AWAY OR SHE'D BE LATE! NO ONE SAID 'OH, READ HER NOTES BEFOREHAND, BECAUSE WE'RE NOT GOING TO BOTHER TELLING YOU THE ESSENTIAL PIECE OF INFORMATION THAT SHE HAS SEIZURES.' OH, THE WOES OF AGENCY WORK!

The terms 'grand mal' and 'petit mal' are being phased out, but many people still refer to them as those. I think they now call them 'partial' and 'generalised' seizures. There is definitely a continuum: an absence of consciousness, altered sensations (auditory/visual/olfactory hallucinations), loss of consciousness, loss of muscle tone, and convulsions.

Oh, yes, I forgot my allergies! Not many.. I'm allergic to latex and morphine and slightly allergic to wasp stings (I well up more than what is normal and get welts, although not an anaphalactic reaction or anything as severe).

I'm hypoglycemic. I black out all the time... I need to start eating right... Drs said if I didn't, there was like an 80% chance of me becoming diabetic by the time I turn 25 or something like that.

I also have like a really bad hip from when it was popped out of joint when I was like 5. It locks up on me all the time, which hurts like hell.

I partially blind in my left eye. My brother got mad at me when we were little and playing in the mud and he stabbed me with a stick. I have a scar from it. Looks pretty cool I think. Haha

I think that's it...

- sore wisdom teeth (they have not yet erupted; in fact, they've stayed in exactly the same place for the past 3 years (as confirmed on X-ray), and annoy/hurt me constantly)
- right temporomandibular joint issues (clicking, swelling, constant pain; I have to massage it constantly. It drives me crazy!)
- neck/shoulder pain (feels as though it's linked to my jaw issues)
and last but not least...
- probable endometriosis (to be confirmed by laparoscopic examination at the end of the year; currently being managed by the combined contraceptive pill, which prevents my hormones from fluctuating monthly, else I'd be experiencing two straight weeks of disabling cramps; as it is, I get cramps a few times a day for 3 weeks out of the month)
also associated with...
- bloating/intestinal discomfort (probably due to endometriosis/pill side-effect)

however, I'm happy to have...
- reasonably good vision! (I'm the only one in my family of 6 who doesn't need glasses!)

Oh, and I forgot to add. xD

- uterine fibroids (benign, inherited from mum)
- polycystic ovaries (NOT inherited from mum. xD And I don't mean PCOS, I just mean that my ovaries are enlarged and have multiple follicles on them, a feature which isn't normal)

I have polycystic ovaries as well, although not PCOS. I didn't know how to word that without sounding ridiculous, but I see that you've done a well job of it xD.

Endometriosis
ITP
can't see far away.. what is that called? but i wear my glasses all the time
Astigmatism
Acid reflux
old injury in back - broken/cracked vertebrae that didn't heal correctly
You've heard of restless leg syndrome? Yes.. i have that in my arms...
I have A-Typical headaches that make me forget who i am, what im doing... everything... face go numb and sometimes can't move arm. NO they aren't strokes.
SOMETHING is wrong with my digestive tract or bowels.. because stuffs not right. I think I have endo on my bowels..
Sick all the time because my immune system is shot (probably due to endo over taking it)

thats the big stuff.. little stuff? tooth hurts because they didn't do the filling right, sometimes my foot/ankle hurts when it rains because i sprained it so much, i crack.. everything on my body cracks (my joints), im itchy... but this is because of my endo too i think. its one of those weird side effects.. i think thats it.
