I used to be completely deaf in my right ear, and had 70% hearing in my left, but since Im studying to be a teacher, and refused hearing aids, they said they could try fix it!!! Apparently there was like only 2 people with my condition in the world! but they fixed it!!! Now I have 80% hearing in my right, and still 75% in the left!!! Its brilliant! Except when Im trying to sleep, I never knew how many night noises there are!!!!

well I wanted to know if there was anything they could do to fix my hearing, and he said that they can scan it and see if there was a cause! I had a bunch of birth issues and so that was one of them apparently!

My parents are both deaf, they have TTY but rarely use it now, they just text message everyone. Oh and those they don't text, they send faxes to. I miss the days of the TTYthough, i used to have fun typing on that!

I am partially deaf in my right ear. The university that I attended has a college for the deaf at it- The National Technical Institute for the Deaf. I went to college with thousands of deaf and hard of hearing people. It's really weird to go home, or go anywhere and not see people signing. I lived with 4 deaf/hard of hearing people for a while my second year of college. I find that being part of the deaf/hard of hearing culture was one of my favorite things about going to college where I did. I haven't had to sign to anyone in weeks and its really weird. It's really great though because ASL is a great asset (or I think it is) and they have free classes for all the hearing people to go to to learn how to sign so they can interact with the deaf/hoh students. I think everyone should learn sign. A few of my sorority sisters date deaf/hoh boys, it's just a really interesting culture to be immersed in. I'm just rambling now....

You went to RIT? I went to RIT too! :) I went in 2005-2006, I took classes at both NTID and RIT, I was going to double major in Laboratory Science Technology at NTID and Biology at RIT-obviously it didn't work out.

When I went to NTID/RIT for the first time, it was a huge cultural shock for me. I've never seen so many people signing before (I didn't grow up with that many deaf people). Anyway, I just thought that was pretty cool to see someone else on bloop that went to RIT. :)

know it's annoying to have to repeat yourself but it's way better to repeat and understand than to pretend to understand and end up thinking "huh?" I'm not deaf but I don't hear very well sometimes..

i'm deaf in my left ear, which, totally my fault, went a concert when i was younger.an stood a little too close to a speaker an blew out my eardrum..so completely deaf in that ear,an don't hear very well out of my other....an yet..i still go to concerts :/
i speak pretty clearly tho, probably because i didnt really go deaf until i was like,13.
i learned ASL because my cousin is married to a deaf man..haha its awesome, everytime i see them,my cousin, her husband i an will carry on a conversation in sign language an the rest of our family has no idea whats being said until we translate for them..altho,my cousin's husband has said i sign like a retarded monkey(i've only been singing for about a yr or so)
