Tattoos While Preggo!?

There are other alternatives if you want to color your hair while pregnant. A lot of women who are pregnant come in for all over highlights because the color does not come in contact with the scalp. Get it done in a salon and you'll be fine. Do it yourself and I can't promise anything. HAH.

However getting tattooed while pregnant? Dumbest idea ever. If you can't wait to get the tattoo after your pregnancy, did you really need it in the first place?

I know this thread is about tattoos, but hair dying has been mentioned. Henna is used to dye hair red. It's not the same as hair dye. Is it advised against?

@Winged Centaur: If you get 100% pure henna (which is red-orange molecules), it would be fine. Some companies offer "henna color" that comes in brown, black, blonde etc. That's a henna compound so there are other chemicals in it, which is what I would be concerned about. Generally, as long as the color isn't touching your scalp (i.e. foils) there should be little to no risk of it absorbing into you and then you passing it on to your child. However, if you're going to use henna to color your hair you have to be certain you want to do that because there is no way to get the henna out of your hair. You pretty much have to let it grow out. Henna color won't lift, so you're limited on what you can do (color-wise) even if you go into the salon.

You can't use foil or any metal with henna because the metal has minerals in it, which can transfer into the henna, sometimes with unexpected results... I've stained my hair with henna for the last 10 years now... I wouldn't hesitate to henna my hair while pregnant... In fact, my hair took it better while I was pregnant this last time... but TRUE henna is only red.

Tattoos, aside from the risk of disease from dirty needles, or infection, the issue is that your body has all sorts of hormones flowing through it, and the liklihood of your body rejecting that tattoo or piercing more than anything

@Burnt.Flowers: I was not suggesting using foils with henna. I meant using foils with regular permanent or demi permanent hair color.

@Burnt: Yea, I was sort of referring to my earlier post about pregnant women usually coming in for foils. I can totally understand the confusion. Silly me! :)

I went through this with someone once, the reason you don't want a tattoo when you are knocked up is because A.) Risk of infection B.) Your hormones are all out of whack and the tattoo more likely than not won't heal properly. I used to know a girl that got a tattoo when she was knocked up and hers healed horribly even though she took care proper of it. Now she has a jacked up Smurf on her arm. (She lied when they asked if she was preggers.) The reasons I gave were the reasons the tattoo artist gave when we asked why it mattered if she was preggers.

I dyed my hair when i was pregnant. granted it was 2 days before i gave birth but i had talked to my OB and he said as long as you aren't out dying it once a month it was fine. More like you do it once and that's it.
