California... I don't see much surfing in Florida here but who knows I go the beach like 3x a year. We don't get very big waves here, but who knows, I'm only speaking about the gulf of Mexico

The waves aren't huge - but it's possible. The first time I ever tried surfing was on an beach in Florida on the Gulf side :P

I want to say St. Pete's Beach (Not to be confused with St. Petersburg - St. Pete's is different, apparently.) but I think we boated somewhere else the day I learned. It's been a long time since I went there lol.
