Video shows a Seattle police officer punch a teenage girl in the face.

I just wanted to know opinions about this...
I believe it was unnecessary.
Do you guys think this was unecessary force or do you think it was justified?

And the women hasn't ever heard of the expression " Assaulting a Peace Officer", which happens to be an automatic 5 year felony in the state of Washington...???

Right, she can wrestle and grab the officer, but he must follow police officer training rule #1: NEVER HIT A LADY. Come on, really?

I totally agree. Rules went out the window when she grabbed him and tried to wrestle him.

That poor girl? Your one of those self-rightous women who think it's ok to attack a man, but a man can't fight back..

Men don't his ladies, but how many women actually ACT like ladies..

Go to jail for defending himself? And "poor" girl? As I've said before he couldn't mace her because 1) he couldn't get to it on account of the female manhandling him and 2) they were in a public place where other citizens were going about their day. So what else could he have done??

I actually agree.

I watched this and I saw him smack her and I was thinking 'you go, man.'
What was he supposed to do, just let these two chicks jump all over him and grab at his arms? Even after he punched her in the face, she still was fighting him.

I'd be proud of my brother if he were in the same situation and punched her like that.

I can see why this looks excessive, but I don't really think the guy was trying to do anything wrong-they were all over him, and both girls had their hands near his belt (and therefore, his gun, amongst other things on the belt).
That's a completely idiotic thing to do, not to mention how dumb it is to get that hostile just for what was initially just questioning, not even an arrest.

If they had acted normally, they probably would have just gotten a warning from the guy, but they went nuts and tried to hit him, so he reacted that way. I can't say I blame him, honestly, because people in public are crazy and his first instinct isn't about the crazy person's rights, but his own safety and that of the people around him. Not saying he was completely justified- he probably could have done something else defensive instead of hitting her- but I definitely don't feel bad for those girls at all.

I don't feel bad for them either. They were clearly in the wrong and should have been arrested and punished. But I do not think they deserved to be punched in the face by someone who was clearly bigger and stronger than they were.

LoL! So if he was a skinny, shorter cop, it would've been o.k. Wow.

Where did I say that? Oh, that's right, I DIDN'T. It would be wrong regardless of the policeman's size. Yet again, you are trying to argue with me by arguing against things I haven't even said!

To Miss Ratitude

But I do not think they deserved to be punched in the face by someone who was clearly bigger and stronger than they were.

Wow, you clearly CAN'T read!

I did NOT say there that it would be OK for a smaller guy to hit her. I simply referred to this guy's size to emphasize the fact that he most CERTAINLY did not need to hit this girl in the face to take her down. And the fact that someone so much bigger and stronger was hitting her meant he could have done her some serious damage.

It would STILL have been wrong for a smaller cop to hit her.

Please stop trying to argue with me using things I've never actually said. It's getting very boring and shows you're clutching at straws, especially since you fail to actually answer any of my questions!

What would you do...you said there were other tactics. I'm curious as to which you would use.

I've answered this more than once. The most recent occassion was on 19th June when I said this...

I have said REPEATEDLY that if I was that police officer (which is not the same as me being me, a member of the public) I would have used OTHER methods of PHYSICAL RESTRAINT. I have said this over and over and over and you keep ignoring it!! These are methods used EVERY day by police officers when dealing with aggressive members of the public. There are methods of getting a holf of someone's arms (sometimes their hair) and getting them to the ground where they can be restrained. It has been 3 years since I worked in psych, which is when I was last trained in the specifics (I have little need for restraint training in my current job) so I can't remember completely how to describe them, but as I have already said, if you put "Methods of Restraint" into YouTube you will find hundreds of videos showing these methods.

If it was me, a member of the public who was being pushed, I wouldn't try to restrain her. I would use methods of self defence if I had to, and walk away.

And so NOPE, I do not get your point at all. There are PLENTY of methods of PHYSICAL RESTRAINT that do not involve punching someone in the face. Do you seriously believe that EVERY time a police officer has to physically restrain someone, they resort to punching those people in the face? Of course they don't! They use OTHER methods. Just as this guy COULD have.

It's not my fault if you can't read! (And the question in my last paragraph is just one of many that you've failed to answer)

I can't see the video, but I've witnessed plenty of kids "attacking" police officers & the police officers have ONLY tackled them & used force to arrest them.

He had every right. It's common sense that you do not assault a police officer. He doesn't seem to be out of line.

Okay, let me rephrase this. He had every right to RESTRAIN her, maybe not to just deck her. I'm sure he had his reasons, & not everyone is going to agree with a police officer. If she wants to get technical about it, she could attempt at suing him or something.

Actually, not to long ago, there was a huge fire in one of the businesses downtown. A lady was trying to get to her house because she thought her son was inside, & the police officer hit her in the face & threw her to the ground. She's like, 110 pounds. Is THAT right?

Oh, I totally agree. He definitely had right to restrain her. But he did not need to punch her in the face in order to restrain her. He was just being angry and aggressive.

Yeah, that happened here. :/
My friend was watching the video yesterday and then screams "OHHHHHHHH, IN THE FAYCE!"
That cop was being ridiculous. She was jay-walking. His reaction was entirely unnecessary.

You say this like him punching her was a sudden reaction to her jaywalking. He punched her because she was grabbing at him.
