My oldest daughter has long beautiful hair. That when wet is curly, but if allowed to air dry ends up "kinky" - as she put it "you can't even call it wavy". It tends to end up looking really oilly on the top even when it isnt. (the hair seperates and looks shiny)
She keeps it pulled up into a sloppy bun or uses the straightener on it but is ready for an easy change (without cutting it, she loves the length)

Any ideas of what she can do that is simple, quick and easy? I've always been the type to pull my hair up into a ponytail or a bun so I have no ideas...

tell her to only use shampoo on the roots to the middle of the length of her hair. the ends are too sensitive and shampoo can make them brittle and dry out over time. tell her to only use conditioner on the ends of her hair. this will keep her ends healthy and the top of her hair won't be greasy. never ever put conditioner on the roots of your hair if you have naturally greasy hair! if she wants curls to stay, she can try a mousse that will hold curls to their shape. if she doesn't naturally have them when dry though, she might just have straight hair. that's how my hair was in middle school--curly/wavy when wet but really dry and frizzy if left to dry. also, letting your hair air dry sometimes keeps hair from going flat.

PHEW. okay i'm done

I had that same problem. But I see that Miss already used my suggestion-- No conditioner on the top.
It worked loads for me.
Also, tell her to be careful when she's washing her hair not to put too much pressure on her scalp, it tends to make the oil glands a bit more active during the day. Or at least it does with me D:

I've also found that the straightener makes my hair look greasy a LOT faster than my hair would if I didn't use it.

I could also suggest putting a bit of baby powder on the roots and brushing it out into the hair to absorb any excess oil. It help's a lot.

Oh, and I recommend the Got2b or Bed Head curl defining creams. Mines in a little pump bottle, and my hair is about her length, so I put about a pump in my damp hair. It helps keep it together and whatnot :)
