HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. - A 37-year-old father irate over hearing his 15-year-old son had sexual contact with a 3-year-old girl made the teen strip at gunpoint, marched him to a vacant lot and shot him to death despite pleas from the boy and his mother, a relative said.

Michigan authorities filed a first-degree murder charge Wednesday against Jamar Pinkney Sr. in the shooting death Monday of Jamar Pinkney Jr. in the Detroit enclave of Highland Park.

Defense attorney Corbett O'Meara said prosecutors should consider evidence of the father's state of mind over the sex abuse report.

"If something were to happen that would cause a reasonable person to lose control of himself, that is something the prosecution would have to take into account," O'Meara said outside Highland Park District Court.

Tensions were high in the courtroom Wednesday as the handcuffed suspect was led into the room for the arraignment, which lasted less than a minute.

"No, No, No," one female relative cried before a police officer escorted her out.

‘Hard to deal with’
Judge Brigette Officer entered a not guilty plea for Pinkney, who's also charged with assault, and ordered him jailed without bond until a preliminary examination Dec. 1.

"This is something that's hard to deal with for all the parties concerned, including the police," police Chief Ted Caldwell said afterward. "Highland Park is a small city. These are people who have been members of the community for years."

Caldwell said the sexual misconduct allegation that led to the confrontation wasn't part of the police investigation.

The shooting happened Monday night in a vacant lot in the once-prosperous city of 16,000, where decay, abandonment, fires and demolition have eaten away at many of the sprawling homes. Highland Park recently exited years of state financial oversight.

Visitors built an impromptu memorial at the shooting site. Two votive candles sat amid 10 stuffed animals, including two white teddy bears with red hearts embroidered with, "I love you."

The boy's mother, Lazette Cherry, told the Detroit Free Press that her son told her he had improper sexual contact with the girl.

"I called and told his father. This isn't something you sweep under the rug," she said.

Cherry said the elder Pinkney arrived at the home with a gun, ordered his son to strip and marched him outside despite her protests.

"He got on his knees and begged, ‘No, Daddy, no,’ and he pulled the trigger," Cherry said.

Cherry did not immediately respond to a phone message Wednesday from The Associated Press seeking comment.

This is such a horrible situation. I mean you hear of the victim's family doing this kind of stuff, but never the abuser's family lashing out & killing them, especially their own father. Being a parent, I couldn't ever kill my own child. But if my child did something like that I don't know I might have went insane too!

Ohhhmigod that's rough justice. His own father?
I don't agree with the death penalty so I can't sit here and say "Good on you Dad" but at the same time, God knows what I'd do if my son did that.

holy cow. it was horrible, HORRIBLE, what the son did, but he should have received his punishment in a courtroom. this is just unbelievable.

Hm. I don't really have much to say about this story. Sure, the father shouldn't have shot his son. But-the son shouldn't have been inapropriate with a child. Its hard to say what the father's state of mind was when he killed his son. Hearing that your child molested a little kid is enough to send anyone off the deep end. I wonder if the little girl was family? That would definately have a big impact on the case.

i really agree with the shooting sexual predators out in the back ally but im not sure i can agree with him shooting his kid, its not his place to take a human life. this kid was young, he was only 15, i think he really could have been helped to see how wrong this is and counseled.

So you're saying if your son did something like this, you'd be able to take him out, make him strip, blow his head off, AND think you were noble for doing it?

If my son did something like this...It wouldn't be about being noble, making him strip, nor anything else. It would be all about the greater good of society. It would be about making sure that not one other woman or child was harmed by them. and yes, I COULD do it.

I have a deep and unbridled hatred for pedophiles and sexual deviants. if I had any say in it, they would ALL be dead.

Wow! I would have probably shot him too but not kill him. Especially if the little girl was family.

The 3 year old was the boy's half sister and his father's child as well. I can see how the father did that now. It was his daughter that was molested. It might have been done by his son, but that was his 3 year old little girl being done that way by a 15 year old boy that should have known better. He knew it was wrong, that's why he admitted to his mother that he done it.

Here is the article I found that info on.

As a victim, I say go dad. If someone ever did that to my little girl, let alone my son I would make him suffer, seriously, he isnt worth the quick death. At the same time, I wouldnt shoot him, I would make him rot in prison I would write him off.

No.

Just no. Not go dad. Bad dad. Very bad dad. You don't fucking kill your flesh and blood under any circumstance. That is capital punishment. Rape/sexual abuse is not.

Thats your opinion, but rape/sexual abuse hurts a child more then people know. Not only does it affect you now, but for the rest of your life. I say go dad. :)

Rape/sexual abuse doesn't kill a child, so what makes you think murder is okay?

you're arguing with someone that has "he promoted me to wife" as their profile picture. i wouldn't expect much common sense to be coming out of her.

oh wow that was his baby sister. no, i think his dad made the right choice. i would have shot him in the weenie though. also rotting in prison wouldn't have done crap, he would have been out free in less then 3 yrs. prison is not punishment, its like time out. i dunno, i think punishment is something horrible happening to you, like what you did to your victim. im not angry or yelling lol, i just hate how easy people in prison have it. innocent homeless people have worst lives then prisoners.

A lot of people like prison. Three square meals a day, a bed to lay your head, no bills, no having to worry about doing right in life.

I sincerely don't mean to be rude, but there's really no other way to say this that would express my feelings on what you just said:

It is sincerely idiotic to think that the dad made the right choice. That is a dangerous mindset to have, even for a feminist or a lover of children. I implore you to never purchase a weapon and keep it at your disposal. I award you no points, and may god have mercy on your soul.

i guess i just see no reason someone should live once then admit to molesting a 3 yr old. from what im reading it may come back that the boy did nothing, and said what he did to his mother what want reason, i dont know, but people who molest others have no place in society, in my opinion anyway. i dont like guns, nor do i personally own one, so you're good there lol and as far as god having mercy on my soul, well i won't get into that lol. im sorry if i offend/scared you.
