I had my annual health screening at work today. I always dread those because my body rebels at having blood drawn for lab work. The nurse who drew the blood was one of the most efficient I’ve ever had, I never even felt the prick (words that many women have also spoken, no doubt…) but I still suffered from the symptoms of my body going into shock. I made it 50 feet to the vending machines and was inserting my money to buy a cold drink when it hit. The walls began closing in, my feet became unsteady, and I was covered in cold perspiration. I managed to get myself into the cafeteria where I put my head on the table and sipped my Coke for 5 minutes or so before I felt well enough to walk back to my desk. I had not eaten anything nor consumed anything but one glass of water since 11:00 PM last night so I ate the breakfast I had brought to work and began feeling much better. I don’t have a mirror in my office but I think my face had returned to its normal pasty pallor within a half hour or so and I’ve been fine ever since. Now I get to wait a few days for the results to come back. I don’t anticipate any issues but one never knows.
My wife had her follow-up appointment with her surgeon Tuesday. Apparently she’s healing satisfactorily, she is scheduled to meet with the physical therapist on July 27 to work on getting her walking again. Until then she was asked to limit the amount of hobbling around she does, she is making her good knee sore from putting all her weight on that one. I took her and the dog for a ride Saturday afternoon, we drove out through the countryside to a nearby town, then took a different route back home. I was telling a co-worker about it on Monday morning when we were discussing our weekends, he laughed and said, “You took your wife and your dog for a ‘ride in the country’? Don’t you think that’s a bit unfair, since she can’t walk to find her way back home? I bet the dog found her way back before Sunday night, didn’t she?” I passed that story along to my wife, she was quite amused. |
