I’ve sat down to write at least four or five times in the past two weeks and written a paragraph or two but never had a chance to finish, and by the time I DID get back to what I had saved it was out of date so I never managed to get anything posted. So this time I’ll try to keep each thought short and maybe I can actually finish an update…
My wife is allowed to put weight on her surgically repaired knee but she is still mostly confined to the walker and unable to walk around freely. She is also in quite a bit of pain from the extra motion and weight that it’s having to get used to again. She is having physical therapy twice a week now, it helps but it sure seems painful at times. She is still unable to drive, I asked her to help me shift some of our vehicles around this past Saturday and she was barely able to manage even moving them in the driveway. I have no idea when she will be mobile again.
The Saturday exercise of moving cars around was so that I could repair the brakes on her car. I’ve been driving it while she is immobile, last Wednesday the front brakes started grinding on our way home from her physical therapy appointment so I bought new pads and rotors Friday and installed them Saturday. Of course Saturday was hot and humid, I did the left side first then went inside to have a bottle of water and cool off but while I was cooling off I fell asleep for quite a long time right there in my chair with the bottle of water still in my lap! It was past 1 PM when I woke up and went back out to the garage to complete the second side, of course it had only gotten hotter in that time. I finished, showered (my fingers had so much brake dust staining them that even after two showers and an alcohol wipe they looked like they belonged to a proctologist with a latex allergy…) then came inside to spend the rest of the day relaxing.
I have my annual performance review coming up at work, I should have already had it but the boss has been busy. I’m always a bit nervous but not too much so. While on the subject of work, I bought another pistol yesterday. Yes, I know… It was an Engineering prototype, an FNP-45 (.45ACP caliber) that was modified to function in dual-action mode only. That means that every pull of the trigger has to fully lift the hammer, as opposed to having a mode where the hammer is already lifted and the trigger only releases it. I tried it out, I rather like the trigger feel and while the pull is the typical long and somewhat heavier pull that is characteristic of a dual-action trigger I find the feel and action to be smooth and nicely weighted. I could squeeze the trigger in dry-fire conditions in the lab without jerking or wavering. I think I’ll like it, and I wanted a .45 to put in the gun cabinet. It looks just like the normal black/black FNP-45 pistols but with no decock lever.
I was planning a vacation to Myrtle Beach in October but I have been waiting to make sure my wife will be up to the trip. It would suck to go to the beach and her still be immobile, she wouldn’t enjoy the trip at all.
Oh, and I’ll close with a small bit of humor… I’ve been noticing a truck in the parking lot at work with a vanity plate that reads “SKNITBK”. I have no idea why we have a rabbi working here…
I know that doesn’t bring me up to date but it does at least hit the high spots of the past three weeks or so. |
