Creepy crawlies

07/10/2009

I decided to drive the GTO back to work after lunch today so after preparing lunch for my wife and I and taking care of her ice pack and other things I opened the garage door to back it out. I always use the twisting latching handle to raise the door because the handle that is supposed to provide a lifting grip has always been clogged with old cobwebs and trash since it’s fairly near the ground. After backing out I got out and went to lower the door, I have to use the top side of that gripping handle since it’s the only gripping surface that’s low enough to reach. I saw a small spider up under the handle this time, it’s the first time I’ve seen any living spider in there. Even though I couldn’t see it well due to the cobwebs I had a funny feeling so I went into my paint cabinet and got a spray can of ether to spray at the spider. The ether either killed or knocked out the spider but it didn’t drop out so I got a long screwdriver to dig it out of its hiding place. Sure enough it was a black widow, the third one I’ve killed since I’ve been here. All three of them were in places where they could easily come in contact with one of us, too. I don’t tolerate sharing my space with venomous creatures, I’m sorry.

My wife will have a little break from her physical therapy. She told the therapist that her good knee was beginning to be sore from hopping around on it, just getting from house to car and car to physical therapy has been a strain on her undamaged leg so they are cutting her back to one appointment next week and probably none until she’s able to walk on her repaired knee. She has her follow-up appointment with the surgeon next week also. I know she’s getting sick of not being mobile, I think I’ll take her for a drive tomorrow or Sunday.
