Trying to get caught up

12/26/2008

Gosh, where does the time go?!? I can't believe my last entry was Sunday or Monday.

Let's see... Monday was lazy. No two ways about it, I didn't do a thing of note. Tuesday was quite a bit busier, though. My new laptop had made it to the local UPS center and was out for delivery so one of us had to remain home at all times. To complicate things, a friend called and wanted me to meet him so he could give me a big pan of barbecue for Christmas. My wife needed to get a prescription filled so I had her leave first, then when she got home I got ready and drove across town to meet my friend. On my way home I stopped off at the UPS store to send an envelope then went to the hobby shop for a can of paint, to the grocery store for a pack of buns to eat the barbecue with, and then to a local burger place for a burger and cherry shake for my wife since she had to stay home while I ate lunch with my friend. The UPS driver delivered my new laptop around 4:30 PM and I spent the rest of the evening getting it set up. It's still not all the way set up but it's closer. I didn't have the security code for the wireless router so I had to go into the spare room and connect with the cable until Stepson returned my call and gave me the security code.

Wednesday I messed around with the new computer all morning then we went out looking for a new coffee maker. It took over an hour to choose one, I was afraid to get one of the cheap $17 Black & Decker ones because they can't possibly be made from quality materials. All the rest had some kind of drawbacks to them, either they had a hot water spout that had to be manually rotated into position over the filter area every time (I'm not sure I would remember to do that) or they had tiny little areas to try and pour the water, or they had poorly-engineered water level guides. We finally settled on a Hamilton Beach that dispensed into our mugs rather than into a carafe. It wasn't exactly what I wanted but it was the best compromise.

Today (Christmas Day) we got up and went to Waffle House for breakfast then we came home, I baked a pecan pie, then we went to see Valkyrie at the theater. It was okay, I enjoyed the storyline but the acting was rather wooden. I realize that German Wehrmacht officers weren't particularly animated but Tom Cruise played the lead character with all the emotion of vintage Clint Eastwood.
