Feeling accomplished

04/14/2012

I think I just fixed the fuel gauge on the Aztek. I noticed last week that it was stuck on "Full" and as much as I wished for that to be true I knew it wasn't. I found a wiring diagram and saw that there was only one wire running from the tank to the Body Computer that controlled the gauge so I crawled underneath and found it. The wire was in a connector that held 8 wires, when I unplugged it to check the resistance about two tablespoons of dirty water poured out of the connector. I sprayed the connector down with electrical contact cleaner, scraped the contacts, sprayed them again, and coated the gasket with silicone compound when I reassembled it. Naturally I had filled up the car last night but the gauge appeared to be slighty down from the top of the scale. I'll watch it carefully this week and see. A bonus was that my remote door locks now work again, after being out for about 8 months. I need to consult that wiring diagram and see if one of the wires for the Keyless Entry receiver goes through that connector. If I fixed that too then I'll feel especially accomplished.
