@pingu I agree its not possible to be individually sad, but I guess I just dont understand this "they deserve it because they are on drugs" attitude. When I hear about a death, I am sad for the loved ones they left behind. I cant imagine being so cruel and mean publicly about a person who died....thats just me though.

@Forever Changing - Well, yes, as I said earlier, I also find the 'they deserved it' attitude a bit ignorant. And the huge quarrels about which deaths should be mentioned on Facebook, as if Facebook is the measure of people's deepest priorities, rather than a social networking site mostly used for small talk. Death is death - everyone dies. In small talk, it makes sense to talk about the deaths of celebs, because everyone's heard of them, so they are a part of everyone's life - not as a loved one, but simply as the provider of entertainment that one either enjoys or doesn't. The fact that more people have heard of Whitney than an American soldier doesn't make anyone's life more important - that is just the nature of popular culture and the entertainment industry.

The person who made the meme has clearly started to forget them both, as both their names are misspelt!

But both are remembered (and spelt correctly!) on Wikipedia.

I'll give you the spelling errors but it's right on in its idea. :)

@ Mommy Bunny: Was this Michael Murphy chap not in the American news when he died? The fact he's got a Wikipedia page devoted to him suggests that his death (and life) didn't go completely unnoticed.

I don't feel very sad for Whitney, more for her daughter and family. I have my own personal family situation I'm going through (my brother is in Japan, dying from cancer), so I don't really give Whitney a second though.

In other news, Kevin Costner has been voted "Worst Bodyguard Ever."

Too soon?
