.shocker.

Oh dear God I had such a shocking experience today. Literally! In the turkey houses that I work in we have these "shocker" lines. They run along the tops of the water and feed lines. The purpose is to keep the turkeys from roosting on them causing the lines to break. These are some pretty heavy lines so if they break a good many turkey's will get killed. So when they fly up to try and roost it shocks them and they get off. It doesn't shock them as bad as us humans because they aren't touching the gound like we are when they touch them. Well, I've been shocked several times by accident. They installed new ones and they haven't been working properly but it's due to the electrical system aka the plug sockets don't seem to be working. Once I got shocked because there was a broken feed pan I was trying to fix and I touched the line by accident. I didn't think it was on anyways due to the 30 or so turkey's roosting on it. I touched it with the tip of my finger...which is very little contact. Another time on the side of my hand and this morning the back of my leg when I stepped over a water line that had been raised. I forgot to take that into account. Jeff has been shocked several times as well and he keeps complaining about how hot they are. I was kind of dubious because to me it just felt like someone had kinda jabbed me with a stick pin. Painful...but only a little bit. Well, today, for the second time, I found out what he meant. Apparently I haven't been touching them "the right way". The feed lines are held up by metal cables that are hooked to a winching system. So as the turkey's grow we raise the feed lines to accomodate them better. But sometimes where the ground isn't as level and whatever else the lines have to be adjusted by the cables. You might have some parts of the line that are lower to you pull up on this metal tab which raises the cable and the line. But they are difficult. Today was the first day I've ever done it and was having a problem trying to get one to move. I had both my hands grabbing this thing and I apparently pulled the metal cable against the shocker line. Well, being as I'm nice and grounded and had both of my hands on that cable, and the cable being metal which is a prefect conduit for electricity...I got shocked like hell. So bad it sent me to the middle of the aisle and I just dropped to a squatting position and cried. It hurt so bad. I don't really recall it happening only where I was after. I am just able to figure out how it happened. My shoulder is killing me. I hate that feeling of being at one place and suddenly at another without knowing how you got there. Granted I didn't go far and I didn't fall but still...it's like a gap in your memory and it drives me nuts lol. That's when Jeff realized that the other times that I got shocked apparently I was just glancing off the lines and not really touching them. So now I'm home early. Not because of that but just because there really wasn't anything else to do and I want to clean. It's been about an hour and I haven't done shit yet. I'm hoping for an easy weekend at work which means just checking and walking the birds. That takes about and hour to an hour and a half. Not bad. I really want to get the house cleaned. I say it every weekend but I really mean it this time. I've been planning my Halloween party and there are things I need to do for that but can't when I'm cleaning. Plus when I get home in the evenings I'm just to tuckered out to clean. It's not that work is hard, just tedious. Plus I'm used to having naps for the past 11 years? lol That so isn't happening at work. I usually get off at 3 or 3:30 and I'll take a nap then but it just makes me lazy. If I take a nap early it's refreshing. Why is that? I don't know but it is what it is. It's almost lunch time so Jeff will be up soon. I may just go ahead and lay down but I'll feel guilty cause he's still working and can't take one and here I am laying on my fat ass sleeping. But hell even if he wasn't working he wouldn't go to sleep. I don't know how he has so much energy. He complains of being tired but he just keeps going and going. I can drink 2 pots of coffee and crash two seconds after finishing my last cup. I'd like to say that coffee has no affect on me but I'd be lying. I can go sound asleep no problem but you should see me on a day that I haven't had any. Not so much I'm tired just lazy and grumpy as hell. So, I'm gonna close this with a nighty night!
