It was spring break for Dalila and only a month before went home for the summer. The last couple weeks she and Jared had been hanging out a lot, mostly watching movies or playing video games at his apartment. Not once has he tried to even kiss her, which she found relaxing and a little insulting. Tonight she didn’t have to work so they were going out to dinner. Dalila was going to use the few tips on make-up that Violet gave her, she even decided to curl her hair, well the ends of it.

“Hey Vi?” she yelled from the bathroom.

“Yes doll?”

“Can I borrow that one blue dress? The one with the spaghetti straps.” Vi looked at her with her mouth hanging open.

“You want to wear a dress?” Dalila nodded in response. “Are you feeling all right?”

“Yes” she laughed. Violet brought her the dress and smirked at her.

Dalila slid on the cotton dress and immediately started feeling sexy. It stopped right above her knees so she didn’t feel too exposed, it was slightly low cut but not enough to make her look trashy. She spun around in the mirror, pleased with herself. Just then she heard Jared’s voice and let out a deep sigh.

“She’s in the bathroom” she heard Vi tell him.

“Ok.” he said slowly. Usually Dalila was on time and prompt. She took a few more moments to herself as she slid on her flip flops.

Jared standing against the wall when she walked out dressed in black slacks and a white button down shirt. She was happy to see that he was a little dressed up also, she didn’t want to feel out of place. His eyes caught sight of her, a smile spread over his lips as he took her in.

“Wow…” She smiled and blushed feeling great. For once he couldn’t think of anything to say. “You look…” he said, pausing and looking her over once again, “Beautiful.”

Dinner went by fast, it was more formal than Dalila was used to but they had fun. They decided to take a walk, taking advantage of the warm spring air. She could tell Jared was feeling uneasy over something, but what she didn’t know. Generally he was smooth and confident but tonight he was quiet and stumbled over his words.

“What’s with you tonight?” she asked bluntly.

“Huh? What.. What do you mean?”

“You seem a little off your game tonight” she joked.

“Oh.” he paused and stopped walking. “Yeah, I guess.”

“I was only joking. You ok?”

“Yeah” he nodded, looking unsure.

“What’s on your mind?”

“Mostly… you.” he answered slowly.

“Me?”

“Yeah…” they came up to a random bench. “You wanna sit?”

“Sure”

“In the past month you have surprised me in so many ways.” He looked at her, her eyes confused and his clouded. “You just aren’t like most women. I can watch movies I like, play video games and be beaten,” he laughed, “but yet you are this incredibly beautiful woman.”

“Oh.” her heart started to beat faster.

“From the moment I saw you, I knew I wanted to get to know you and now that I have, it’s not enough. I want more” She wanted to talk, to say something but she didn’t know what or even if she could. There was a cold chill that ran over her body yet inside she felt on fire.

“How much more?” she whispered.

“As much as you’ll give me…” His right hand came to meet her cheek, fingers tangled in her hair. Slowly he moved close and she leaned in slightly to him. Their lips touched briefly and her head was spinning with a million different thoughts and emotions. He kissed her again then pulled back and smiled at her.

Dalila didn’t know how to feel right now. Her insides were tied in a knot and her brain was overflowing. She liked Jared, more than she thought she could she just wasn’t sure she was ready for this. There was still a huge part of her missing. Dalila knew most of it had to deal with Bryce, she didn’t know how to get over him. She looked at Jared who was looking into her eyes, almost love struck. He sighed deeply and stood up.

“I think we should get going…You ok?”

“Yeah.” she nodded.

“My place or yours?”

“Hmm, probably mine. I still have a lot of things to get ready before I go home for the summer.” They headed back to his car.

“I’m going to miss you, ya know?”

“Oh yeah… I think I’ll miss you too.” she smiled
