le strike

It had been two weeks since Dalila talk to Bryce. He’d emailed her a couple times but Dalila just told him she didn’t have time to talk because finals would be starting soon. Today was her first day at her new job, she now worked at a coffee shop part time and luckily she only cleared the dishes instead of having to try and make the drinks.

“Excuse me miss?”

“Yes? Can I help you?”

“Yeah, do you have the time?”

“Sure. It’s seven-ten” Dalila smile politely and continued cleaning off the tables.

“At night?” he asked.

“Uh…” she paused with a blank expression on her face. She glanced out the window and noted the sun was setting. Weirdo. “Yes.” and walked away.

“Phew” he chuckled. “Because I happen to know that this place closes at eight.”

“Yup” and moved to a different table, but he followed her.

“Do you have plans after work?” Dalila turned to look at him, he had a smirk on his face and she couldn’t help but smile too.

“I don’t.”

“Would you like some?” I’m Jared by the way.” he extended his hand.

“Dalila” she took his hand for the shake and was shocked when he brought it up to his lips.

“Pleasures all mind. I’ll pick you up after work then?”

“I, uh..” she stammered.

“Good.” he smiled and left.

She didn’t expect him to be waiting for her when she left work but he was. His black hair blowing in the cool nights air, smiling at her. She didn’t know how to react so she just chuckled and shook her head.

“Where would you like to go?” he asked motioning to his car.

“Oh… I smell like coffee, I don’t feel like going out.”

“Fine. We can go to my apartment. I’ve got a ton of movies and video games.”

“I’m not that kind of girl” she stated.

“Are you Amish?” Dalila laughed then looked at him.

“No, I mean going to your apartment.”

“Oh. Well then you are in luck! I’m not that kind of guy. Scouts honor.”

Dalila looked into his beautiful grey eyes and nodded. He seemed like a decent guy and maybe, just maybe she wanted him to be lying. She slid into the car, he opened and shut the door for her. He got into the drivers seat and headed off.

“So, what are your favorite movies?” he asked. Dalila couldn’t think about movies without thinking of Bryce.

“Hmmm…” pausing, she remembered all the time spent with him watching movies. She shook her head, shook him out of her head. “I like comedies, romance, and some science fiction, not many of those though.”

Jared pulled into the parking lot of a tall apartment complex. Dalila’s insides tightened when he parked and shit the car off. Suddenly she wished she had turned him down. This was her first step away from her relationship with Bryce, there was a fight going on inside of her.

“Really? You like sci-fi? I knew I was drawn to you for some reason” he laughed. “Here we are.” he got out of the car, walked around to her side and opened the door for her.

“Thanks” she said shyly.

They walked into his apartment, it was so much bigger than her dorm was and so much better decorated. He had a flat screen television, an x-box, play station 2, and a sound system. They carpets were a deep beige and the walls an off-white with stylish pictures all over the walls.

“Wow” was all she could say. It looked amazing and guy-ish, which surprised her.

“What?”

“It’s really nice.”

“You seem surprised.”

“I’ve been living in a dorm since September.” she walked over to the dark blue couch and sat down, feeling slight uncomfortable. Jared went over to where his movies were stored and went through them.

“Well, you’re welcome here anytime.” he smiled. “How about…” he paused. “Fever Pitch tonight and Star Wars the next time?” He winked at her.

“Sure” she said with half a chuckle.
