Easter with Nikki

04/13/2009

I was calm. I guess I was suppose to be nervous but I wasn’t.

Nikki’s mother invited me to her place for Easter. She knew I was Jewish and keep Koasha for Passover but I had thought she knew what it meant to be Koasha since her family? Was Jewish? But when she asked me if I wanted potatoes chips, I knew she didn’t understand. I felt bad and I am sure she felt bad that I didn’t want anything she offered. OOPs, I am jumping ahead of myself now.

I had taken an Amtrak train from Boston MA to Stanford CT all by myself. Woo, I was a big boy. The train is suppose to be a lot nicer and well, except that it did have an outlet at the window seat, I do not see anything else different. It take half the time, which is why I did go by train, but for the money, I don’t know. Give me the rowdy bleachers over the much more expensive luxurious club seats.

Nikki and her sister met me at the station. We went back to their mothers where I was introduced to her mother and I settled in before we had dinner. I had brought chicken Salad and matzah. Her mom offered me tea, which I gladly excepted but had to turn down the desserts. We had moved on to the TV room to watch sports and a very interesting show that was on demand about a therapist. Nikki will have to tell me what it is called unless someone else knows. Each night is a different client but every day of the week was the same client. So every let’s say Monday, was Pearl and every Tuesday was Jack. So week 1 was their first session and the second week was the second session. Nikki’s mom was going to sleep but we stayed up and watched more baseball. Eventually we went to sleep. I had a hard time sleeping but eventually I dozed off.

I had woke only a few hours after I went to sleep so I eventually went back to sleep. When I woke up it was late morning. I heard Nikki helping her mom in the kitchen. The Easter Bunny came and left Nikki a little gift. I saw the bunny with my own two eyes. I took a shower and when I got out, Nikki thanked me for the gift. I told her that I didn’t get it for her, the Easter Bunny left it. (It was a John Smoltz redsox T-jersey that she’s asking me to get for her since he signed with the Red Sox.)

I had two muffins my mom made for me. I then watched tv. Until Nikki’s sister and her boyfriend came over. Reace, the bf came over and introduced himself. A very nice guy except that he is a a a, a Yankee fan.
We all sat down for dinner. I didn’t say much. They were talking about politics and tv shows and other things I don’t know much about. Reace was talking about his shop he was opening. Nikki’s mother asked me about my family. What they all do. I didn’t say much after that.
The dinner was good, stake, potatoes, carrots and broccoli.
After dinner, we sat around the table drinking tea or coffee. Dessert was offered but nothing I could eat. Again I felt bad and I know her mom felt bad too.
When we were finishing up, friends of the family came over. Nikki brought me in the bedroom, telling others that we were going to check on the game. Another friend of the family came over and we went back to the tv room and stayed, much to Nikki’s dismay. They talked about the health care system, traveling and other topics. None that would be discussed in my family.
Eventually the friends of the family left than the sister and boyfriend. We watched the beginning of the Cubs Brewers games but went to catch two more episodes of that show about the therapist. We went to sleep after that.
(both nights, we did fool around a bit but couldn’t do too much)

Unfortunately I woke up only a few hours later. I cuddled with Nikki a bit, tried to go back to sleep, couldn’t, sat up on the couch and laid back down, thinking of everything, and could not get tired. Eventually I got up and got my radio. I found NY sports radio, that kept my mind contented for a few hours. When 6Am finally rolled around, I got up and took a shower. I got ready while Nikki was in the shower. She called for a cab and we said bye to her mother and we headed out.
Taking a cab to the local train station and then took the train to the train-bus station.
Nikki went to the window and asked for assist for me to get on to the train. The guy said that there was no one to help, could she do it. Nikki said she guess so.
I was NOT HAPPY.
We waited for my train and when it came we went down to bored me. A conductor who helped me off of the train coming to CT, saw me and helped me on and going through 4 cars before she found an empty seat. She told me that she would have one of the conductors help me off. I thanked her. I sat and put on my radio, it didn’t work on the train so I put the chair back, put my traveling cd on and fell asleep, woke up only to fall back to sleep. I woke with 40 minutes to go. I stayed up even though I still felt very tired. We got into Boston and no Conductor came over to help me. The guy next to me offered to help me off the train after he looked around, and there was no conductor around. He brought me in the station where I met my father but again, I was NOT HAPPY with the service I received.
I got home, had lunch, Hotdog and potato salad, told my mom about my few days and I went down to my room, put on a game to learn that
Harry Kalas, Philadelphia Phillies broadcaster and NFL Films voice, dies at 73.
He was preparing for the day’s game in his radeo box when he passed on.
Mark "the Bird" Fidrych, a 54 year old fun-loving pitcher for The Detroit Tigers during the late 70’s, was found dead at his home working on a truck.
He is most noted for talking to the baseball, touch the ground before some pitches and flapping his arms before winding up for a pitch.

They say people die in 3’s.
These two passing only 4 days after 22 year old pitcher Nick Adenhart was killed.

RIP to them all.
