So I have an old friend who I used to work with added on Facebook. She didn't really post much outside of talking about events related to her small real estate business. Back in the day, her and I used to hang out outside of work, and do karaoke, have drinks, etc. I met her husband. He was a super quiet guy, but a good guy nonetheless. She was loud, happy, cheerful, and always had a super warm presence. She was easy to talk to. She was a cancer survivor, in her mid 40s I believe, and was always a fun loving person. Naturally, when she left the job, and I left about a year or two later, we lost regular contact, but I would always follow her on social media.
So yesterday, she posts this super angry status about the state of Oregon decriminalizing all hard drugs. Not legalizing -- just decriminalizing. In an effort to treat drug addiction as a medical problem instead of a crime, and funnel resources into treatment centers. I won't go into a huge rant about it, but I think this is a great thing, and the rest of the country should follow along. She went off on this huge diatribe about these same hard drug users were the same rioters/looters from Oregon, and that this is a horrible idea, and the law was passed to enable people, etc. I started off with, "I don't think I'm with you here," and listed off why. She didn't respond. She got into it with someone else, and was being a little rude. Uncharacteristically so. I responded to her comment, and mentioned that her response was just a little bit crass in tone, and explained the alternate position. Posted a bunch of links, facts, etc. Then this exchange happened:
Her: I’m blocking u because you think u can come referee my threads. Congratulations on the baby bye.
Me: That's wild Janet
Me: We were super cool once upon a time
Her: I’m a free thinker Chris and you’re judgy as fuck bye
Me: I didn't judge you at all
Me: Like whatsoever
Me: Yeah. That's not about you personally
Me: That was how it came off in tone
Her: The crass way? Fuck u.
Me: I already know you aren't like that
Me: Janet wtf
Me: Why do you think I'm like just here to be an asshole to you
Me: Is this even you?
Me: Did your account get hacked or something
Her: You never comment and when u do is to judge and take me out of context ok. Good luck in life
Me: I commented on your status to disagree once
Me: And it was that thread
Her:Never again that’s for sure
Me: You have changed
Me: I don't know what this weird nonsense is about but if that's how you feel then peace
Her: I’m grown as fuck now. Maybe u should grow up too
Me: Maybe learn how to disagree with people maturely
She then blocked me, then unblocked me.
Me: Are you unblocking me to continue wasting your time?
Her: How about there’s nothing to disagree about.
Me: Have a nice night
Her: No. To tell you that what you’re doing is being a fake.
Me: How am I being fake
Me: Can we have a phone call to discuss this or something?
Me: I've never had a problem with you and never had a single negative feeling about you ever
Her: How the fuck can u still race me. Don’t u have a child. Go live your life.
Me: Race you? What does that mean
Her: Well. Your opinion on how I post is not wanted or needed. Go post your own shit. Text
Me: It was a political disagreement
Me: I'm not trying to police how you post
Me: I just disagreed, that's all
Me: I don't know what happened that you are suddenly like flipping out over like a trivial disagreement or if you were always like this but again I never had a problem with you and still don't. I have nothing but warm memories of you. If that changes over like a damn disagreement over a state neither of us live in then so be it
And that's it. I've been reeling about this exchange ever since. It's really tragic the way we communicate and disagree with people in this country in 2020. Donald Trump has turned people into complete fucking psychopaths in this country.
