Buzz

10/17/2018

I am so bad about sitting down at a computer to write these posts. Today on the way to my doctors appointment, I mentally composed a great entry about how to adapt and learn to accept military spouse life.

But when I got home from my appointment, I just did laundry, cleaned house, and took care of some volunteer paperwork that I have to complete. And now, I'm trying to sneak in an entry while David Paul is out playing with friends and David is pooping (ha!).

Man, getting old sucks. I turn 38 years old next month. Years of treating my body like a straight dumpster for junk food is catching up with me. High blood pressure has gotten me a little concerned, especially with my Mom's history of stroke. I'm lost some EL BEES over the past couple of weeks, but I have a lot to go. Changed up my diet, working out, starting to see a change.

I stopped by the surgery clinic when I was at the hospital today. We lost our bariatric surgeon right after he removed my lap band. He deployed, so we've been waiting on a new one to come in. She's finally arrived, and I spoke with the head nurse today. She said I have to get a new referral from my PCM, but as soon as that goes through, we'll work on scheduling my next surgery (gastric sleeve). I am excited for the process and ready to get it going.

Oh yeah. I had so many problems with my lap band. Like, I lost a ton of weight. But we never could get it inflated/deflated correctly and I was constantly sore. Then it slipped, so I had surgery to have it corrected. Then after that it was just...bad. I was constantly uncomfortable. I would lose weight, then gain weight. New York was useless, as nobody would touch me for fills (we didn't place the band, so we won't give fills). Carson had the legit worse surgical clinic. The one doctor wanted nothing to do with any patients at all.

So, when I got here, I went in immediately to chat with the bariatric department. They were great here. The doctor immediately said "I can give you a referral to go off post if you want to get a fill, but I'd rather just remove it and convert it to a sleeve or bypass, because lap bands are generally a failure, and all we do with lap bands is remove them." Which was 100% what I wanted to hear, to be honest. So, he removed it. AND then deployed.

Womp womp.

Anyway, this was mundane and now I'm going to bed.
