Boing.

Logistically it sucks having only one car.

In the time BEFORE, we had two cars. My husband worked, I had freedom. I could get in my little white car and just drive wherever. Need to go to walmart? Okay. Need to go to the grocery store? No problem.

In the NOW, it's not like that. We moved, and financially it made no sense to keep the 2nd car. We live close to everything I need. And if I really need the car, my husband has a company car that he can use so I can use ours.

It usually works out.

Today, not so much.

The option was a) wake up 2 hours early, wake up our child way earlier than necessary, and take him to work. Key word: EARLY. or b) Not have the car and hope that he gets a chance to drop it off to me at some point today.

We're pulling for B. We're fans of the underdog.

I do, sometimes, get a lust for a new car though. Yesterday, my husband stopped by to have dinner with us, I met him in the parking lot to help him carry his stuff into the house. I reached into his company car and was hit with that "new car" smell. It's a 2011 Ford Focus. Pretty basic, really. But I've never been much for flashy cars. I sat down in the driver's seat (shhhhh, don't tell his boss) and fell in love.

Trying to figure out how to get the family car to me for use today (taking our son to sign up for a spring/summer sport this afternoon), my husband says "Well, I'll try to get it to you today. I need to bring the company car home tonight anyway, because I have to take it to Queens tomorrow for an inspection. Here's an idea...walk to the station today and just pick it up."

BRILLIANT. Three miles. That in itself is not a bad idea, I could stand to do a brisk 3 mile walk. Just, the idea of walking through the ghetto (which starts about a mile from my house, urban living is weird sometimes) doesn't appeal to me.

First day of spring, I've sneezed a lot, already. Here's to itchy eyes, sneezes, playing outside with the boy and the dog, blowing bubbles, late afternoons, and ice cream trucks. Huzzah!

I'm kind of going through that too. I have a car but my boyfriend doesn't. He works 7 days a week and needs the car from 6pm to 4:30am. I get out of class and work around 3 in the afternoon and he has to leave by 5:30p so I only have that small window of time to do stuff if I need to. It sucks.
