When i had a mortgage, i still just up and moved. I always had a job waiting for me, though. When I sold the house (short-sold), that's when I started to just move randomly.

It is AMAZING when it's sunny. So- some things that my friends in baltimore have noticed:
"it's been raining since sunday and no one wants to go out" (this is suuuuper common for seattle in the winter. Once you have faught off traffic and are home, you don't want to go out/do stuff.)
during the winter I forced myself to go visit people who wouldn't come out to see me.
during the summer- it's easier because it IS nicer and people want to go outside/hike/etc.
Some people get used to the rain... Others (like me) who are really sensitive to the sun/lack of sun never really get used to it. I found myself going across the pass a lot just to see the sun.
Honestly? If you want to move out here, just do it. Get a place for 6 months, transfer your job and just take the plunge. If you don't like it- then move back. I think everyone should do something crazy every once in a while.
I'll stick with bungee jumping

I've lived all over in seattle. Fremont, Renton, Bothell, Woodinville, bellevue, queenanne... If I could stand the commute, i'd pick Ballard. That's my favorite.
but I really don't like Seattle. I haven't seen the sun in a long time and I like the east-coast attitude better. I miss bmore
