Organisation!

08/17/2010

马塑像Interesting day at the office (lol. middle aged, much.) - Charles set me up with a remote computer, so I can access their Chinese system, basically. As a result I've been searching job reference numbers all day (again. arrgh!), except this time I wrote them all down in a giant record book because apparently they keep paper records in case the computer system fails -_- sensible, but once again I am an archivist, archiving company names and the tonnage of Pb Concs. they decide to ship -__-; Not complaining too much though, it's better to have something to do, compared to yesterday~

Finally checked out trains to Qingdao properly, but I couldn't find any way to book tickets without going through an American site~ In the end I asked Sabrina for a hand and there's a ticket agency next to the office, so she'll take me there. I'm being baby-sat so badly She doesn't seem too happy about me taking the train though, it's quite a long way to travel by train, planes are much more convenient. Problematically I travelled to China with an airline that allowed 10kg extra baggage free of charge, meaning I'm now excessively OVER-WEIGHT Regardless of this Sabrina is argueing that 30kg of baggage is too much to take on a train and I should send it ahead, but I don't trust the university with its own underwear, let alone my luggage (I've over-used exasperated smileys... erm... :|).

There's also the reality that I can't afford a plane ticket, a train ticket alone is around £30+ and Sabrina's suggested going to Beijing at the weekend (again) because her Australian friends are coming over. They've actually got a plan though, as well as the Forbidden City they want to see the Bird's Nest Stadium and the Great Wall (organised buggers) Either way I want to go, to be sociable and also because a weekend alone would end in staring at a wall or watching Yao Ming jump like some glorified grasshopper.

Anyway! I took some pictures of the buildings on the way home from work;
First is the giant crossing I have to navigate every day The traffic lights broke today, so I got a taxi straight from the hotel. I figured if I was going to be hit by a car it'd be better to be in another car when it happens
Then there's the German church and concert hall,
And finally a strange horse statue near the hotel, there are a few of these random metal statues everywhere, usually of horses or children...

I'm waiting to get my revenge after I do the final and I guarantee my grade... Then I could probably egg his house as well =P

Eh It would've been nice if they kept celebrating their own festivals bigger than they do the foreign ones. It's always the younger generation ruining everything because they think something else is cooler =/ and I sound so old saying that like I'm not part of this generation =P

Oh Chinese and food! How fun =D The Chinese language sounds like all vowels to me =P Yeah I'm an Industrial Engineering student.

How come you're over-weight? All the airlines I've ever traveled on allow 2 suitcases 23kg each. Is it different over there?

[GiggleStar|0 likes] [|reply]

O_o; seriously? I've never been with an airline that's allowed 2 bags Most UK airlines, or airlines operating around the UK generally only allow 1 bag, 20kg at most~ It might be different in China if it's different for you.. but either way I can't afford the flight

I've travelled on Air Canada and on Lufthansa which is a German airline in addition to a bunch of Arab airlines. But I think the number of the bags you're allowed depends on your destination not just the airline.

I've never been on those two, but I always fly Emirates when I come to China and they've always said only 1 bag, but they're generous with 30kg <3

your third picture kinda looks like a building we have on my campus at school!!

Seriously? You have a very classy school This one used to be an active church for the local German populace, but they were massacred/thrown out by the Japanese, so now it's a building the Chinese can look at and go: oooooo ^^

[~Becka~|0 likes] [|reply]

well my school is very architechural (if that's a word) some of the buildings are very old looking and pretty and others are very modern and square.

[*tiffymae*|0 likes] [|reply]

It sounds really nice - when we say our school has "old-looking" buildings, we mean 70's-style monstrosities And the "modern" buildings look like space ships that landed and the council cemented their wheels down

Our old looking buildings are amazing pieces of architecture for the time. Same with our modern buildings. Go to www.uwm.edu you may be able to check them out there, it's my schools website.

Ooo, the red-cathedral-looking building is really nice, what's it used for?

[~Becka~|0 likes] [|reply]

i think there's a lot of classrooms and lecture halls in it. there are like 3-4 on campus. they're amazing, but creepy cause the floors squeek.

Wow that's tough having a paper system too 0__O Doesn't that mean there's twice as much work?

Oooh it looks like such nice weather Yay horse statues! ^__^ They look like the one that next to water world I may be getting your special phone number from your mother tomorrow! XD So you'll have to talk to me whether you like it or not moohhahaha.

I laughed so much at your comment about mini rivers 8D It's from a song I was listening to. I'm not blue eyed damnit i'm green eyed! XP My parents were both blonde when they were my age Also, I have highlights put in so I'm blonder than I might be.

Sorta, it mainly means the paper records are a month behind because no one can be bothered to do it, also their are HUGE differences between what the database says and what the paper records say oh well, I'm not paid to correct everyone

Lol, huzzah for convos! You could have just asked me woman! I shall send it to you when I get back to the hotel tonight, it's written down somewhere ^^

XD zomg! I met some people in the hotel lift who totally reminded me of your parents, same kind of couple/coupl-ly mannerisms XP Although there was an awkward feeling (unlike your parents), I get the feeling they were trying to have adult naughty time in the lift or something... *flees*
