Waiting on our Princess

I suppose things are going. It seems like if its not one thing it is the next. I finally found someone at my high school who could find my shot records for me so those are on their way. But no one from the University has called me back nor Northland and I tried calling someone else again today with no answer. I am getting really fed up and frustrated. I am an online student and if I cannot get ahold of them when I need them now what about when I am in the middle of a course?

We got a puppy Friday. I know we had decided to wait a while so I wouldn't have to worry about potty training a puppy while being at home with Claire all day as well. We always look at the pet store in the mall. It has just been something we do. Well when we were in there this time this family walked in with three pups to sell to the store. Two black and one colored like a Rottie. I knew by looking at him he was at least half rott because every part of him looks rott. I looked at Josh and told him we had to wait and see if they were going to be sold at the store or if they were just there for grooming. We went to Sears to look for a crib set for Claire and then came back to ask. By that point they had put them in the kennels and there was a bagillion people looking at them so I made sure to be the first to ask how much they were. The guy wasn't done wheeling and dealing with the owner so we waited. The lady asked if we wanted to see him and I didn't say a word - OF COURSE I DID! but I know Joshua and he knows both of us. If he came out and we saw him it would be a done deal we would have to have him. The fear we had was that they were going to want crazy money for him. He was half lab half rott and once they figured it out they told us 269.99. Josh looked up at me ( he was on the floor playing with him ) and asked if this was the one I wanted.. Well duh! of course it was. So we got him. We were going to wait but we both realized how almost too perfect this was. He wants a lab, I want a Rott, he has the best of both worlds.

I also liked that I saw him walk in with a family. The teenage girl almost cried when they had to leave him there so we know he came from a good home and not a kennel or puppy mill, something like that. We paid for him and left him there while we finished shopping and buying things for him then took him home.

I love him dearly. He is the biggest cuddle bug I have ever seen in my life. Most dogs are to some extent but he is full on and lazy! I love it. The thing that is getting frustrating though is potty training him. We are crate training him of course because it just works easiest for us. He is smart and has caught on so fast it is ridiculous - but just for Joshua! We both have the same method or whatever and he refuses to go for me. Take him out set him on the grass and play with him a bit, rile him up, roll him around and run a bit with him. The movement of course makes him have to go before too long. But nope, not for me. He will sit his ass right down and lay down and not move when I take him out. The second Josh comes out the door to take over oooooooooo all over the place and gone in less then 3 minutes and it is really starting to piss me off. He will not pee the entire day Josh is at work unless it is on the floor inside.

So. During the day he has a schedule that is basically a long repetitive list of his food times, crate time ( to get him used to it ) and potty times. I don't follow it to a tee but it helps me reinforce it to myself when I have it on the board and can see it. Welp, when he doesn't go to the bathroom outside he goes to the kennel and we try again in fifteen or so minutes. Do that once or twice and he hasn't gone he stays in there til it is time to try again. That is what I have read to do, I kinda mixed a bunch of training websites training suggestions. The schedule was from one, the putting him in the kennel if he refuses to go is another etc. He will eventually get it. But the second Josh gets home he takes him out first thing and he goes. I don't mind standing out there with him for a long while if he is moving or doing something but when he throws himself down and don't move it isn't worth my time. We are trying to figure out a way to do training with him but Josh would work during classes every other week and I have nothing to do with Claire so right now I can't He will have to learn our way or the hard way. Choice is up to him.

Omg, my rott is the best dog I've ever owned. I love him to death. They're so loyal & faithful, & such protectors. My dad went out to grab me once - we were joking around - & Dakota backed up to me & growled at my dad, lol. :]

Aw I wanna see a pic of the puppy!! That sounds like how we trained our puppy. It took a couple weeks but he's been good ever since!
