This, that and the other thing

04/14/2009

First, The 2nd Annual Reader Requests.

I'm low on blog fodder so I'm turning it over to you for request of what you would like me to write about. I will write about anything you want me to write about. You can request more than one thing I promise to use them all no matter how silly or serious. So request until you're blue in the face. You have until April 15, 2009 to get your requests in.

Second, it's nice out today. So I'm wearing my favourite short plaid skirt. It's still office appropriate but it's still full of awesome. I have a really funny story about me wearing a plaid skirt I should blog about sometime. It's not as much funny as it is really flattering and kind of nice and something that makes me and the other person involved smile when ever either of us think of it.

Third, I've gotten a green light on my pole dancing fundraiser for our Challenege for life team! Watch the bookface group for more info. If you're not a member of the J-Team bookface group...well then you should be. Oh and can anyone think of a clever name of the fundraiser. John came up with Cylindrical Covorting for a Cure...um no. Ideas? The studio that is hosting it (the studio I go to) is called Divas on the Loose if that helps.

Lastly, the Blogathon for a Cure quickly approaches. Remeber Jamie and I will be attempting 24 challenges in 24 hours and then blogging about them all in the name of charity! The tattoo appointments are booked. The pole dancing class is confirmed. Instructions on making a tutu have been found.

It's May 1 through May 2. We're doing this for my 20Km CancerCare Manitoba Challenge for life team. If you want to donate to our insanity just head on over to http://www.challengeforlife.ca/netcommunity/teamJ and remember to put "CancerCare Blogathon" in the comments. Online pledging is secure and it saves CancerCare money by reducing administrative costs - it means the money you give can go further to help the fight against cancer.

In 2008, hundreds of Manitobans joined the inaugural Challenge for Life 20k Walk. The incredible efforts of everyone involved resulted in over $650,000 being raised which was immediately put to work at CancerCare Manitoba

Patient care and support, including education, early detection initiatives and clinical trials were key priorities receiving funding through the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation. Just over 50% of the dollars raised from the Challenge went to support this area of CancerCare Manitoba.

A few of the programs to receive funding include:

Patient and Family Resource Centre, the Guardian Angel Caring Room and the Breast Cancer Centre of Hope
Community Cancer Program Network (CCPN) conference
Uniting Primary Care and Oncology (UPCON) training programs for family doctors to enhance their knowledge and skills around cancer care
Clinical trials giving patients access to leading-edge treatments and allowing researchers to develop and test potentially life-saving therapies were also supported. Approximately 1,000 CancerCare Manitoba patients are currently enrolled in a clinical trial.
