So the last few months, since July, I've been begging Matt to get new clothes for Garret. He's been through an amazing growth spurt over the summer and all his pants, except a few were too short, the shirts sleeves were too short, and his shoes were falling apart and starting to hurt his feet, etc. When we re-did our parenting agreement last year or so, he agreed to reduce the amount he paid me each month with the concession that he would provide new clothes for Garret when he needed them. A big problem that we ran into is his new wife and himself, refuses to shop at thrift stores or second hand shops, and insists on buy brand name clothes, so he comes home with jeans that cost upwards of $40...which is stupid (IMHO) for a growing boy who grows out of them fast and tears through them in a matter of months. So, when July came around, I warned Matt that I would be sending a list of things Garret needed and that it would be quite large because he basically needed an entire new wardrobe. So, the week before school, the list went up, and the list came back....one pair of jeans, underware, undershirts, socks, and something minor...can't remember right now. Needless to say I was extremely unhappy. So Garret started school with 4 pairs of jeans, and a few t-shirts and 1 sweater and 1 jacket. Now I'm not being ungrateful, I'm glad he had that many clothes at all, however, this is about a parent refusing to be responsible. The clothing list went up and down several more times with no new things bought, the last time when I requested he purchase new clothes he claimed that he had gotten into a car accident and "it wasn't in his budget right now." This last weekend I tried once more. I didn't ask for much, 1 pair of gloves and 1 pair of shoes, since his were now broken. This is what he came home with....1 brand new pair of (really expensive) jeans, a hat and glove set, and a really expensive looking new belt (he already had a really awesome belt), which matt claimed he needed because the new pants were falling down...duh...he got him the wrong size! Needless to say, I was infuriated, but I gently countered with "OK, then I'll have to go buy them and I'll send you the bill." So, I have spent the weekend shopping for deals on ebay, getting an entire new wardrobe for my son, and I'm about to send off the email to matt with the total.....$180.00 (and that's not even counting the nice suit and dress shirts I bought, since he asked if we could start going back to church...still trying to find him some dress shoes, too). Prayers would be appreciated because I know he's going to be furious, but someone please tell me what else I was supposed to do...he agreed to buy clothes for his son and then refused (yes, refused...Garret said so when I asked why he got the other stuff instead of new shoes and he said his dad didn't want to).
***This is what I wrote...will update when he responds.
As I mentioned on Sunday when I picked Garret up, I would be sending you
the amount for reimbursement for what I spent to purchase Garret the
new clothes he has needed for the past 4 months.
The total cost is
$170.00. This is for everyday/school clothes,1 pair of shoes and 1 pair
of cold weather boots, enough to see him through the winter and
possibly through spring,
with the exception of shoes, which he will need as he grows out of and/or wears through them.
