Meditation & Morphing (Nov. 25th)

01/29/2014

[[And many, many, thanks to my delightful Sissy for Jasmine’s wonderful words…& for her putting up with Harlequin to begin with. *giggles*]]

Harlequin had been in the girls’ bathroom, honing her morphing ability to do as she desired. She had learned at an early age that she could transform her features, something that had come in handy traveling with the Cirque, keeping their acts fresh. Hel had also learned that it was even easier to hone said skills if she had a large reflective surface to practice in. Thankfully, the second floor bathroom continued to be avoided by most everybody, and could provide her with said surface. Finally satisfied that she had mastered her newest idea, the witch hurried off in search of her best friend, eager to show the other witch what she had come up with.

After looking in a couple of the usual spots, Hel headed back to the common room. ‘We really should consider coming up with some way to find each other more easily.’ Glancing around, there wasn’t any sign of Jasmine in the common room either, scowling slightly, Hel headed for the dorms.

“Jem! There you are,” the black haired witch was seated upon her bed. “I want to show you something,” Hel shifted to what she had been working on, yet received no response from the other witch. “Um, hello?” Leaning in closer to her friend, Hel rolled her eyes at herself, dropping the morph she had shifted into. “Aw man, she’s stepped out.” The witch shook her head and started pacing the room, “Seriously?” She paused in front of the other witch, waving her hand before her face. “Nope, completely out of here.”

It wasn’t often that Harlequin managed to catch Jasmine in mid-meditation, but she had learned early on, nothing she could do, would bring her best friend back around. So, she would sit and wait. While she waited, the witch took out a piece of parchment, folded it so it would sit up, scribbled a few words on it, and propped it up before Jem. Sitting back, she waited for her friend’s reemergence from the Otherworld she visited.

Jasmine opened her eyes, glanced down at the parchment placed in front of her and looked up at her best friend. She arched her brow, "Really?"

Hel let out a slight laugh, the sign before her friend read, *Out of Body, Be Back Later.* “Well, it’s sort of true. Might as well be,” the witch returned, “nothing short of Hogwarts falling down around you is going to bring you back out. Not even sure about that one.”

The grin on Jasmine’s lips turned down in a frown. “I used to believe that, but…something did bring me out, just the other day. Abruptly, too.”

Harlequin tilted her head sideways, noticing her friends change in demeanor. “I’m sure it’s nothing serious. Stress maybe? You’ve had a bit of it that the last little bit. We’ll have to do something to fix that. Hopefully something that doesn’t land either one of us in detention, least not you, can’t see that being good for stress.”

“I don’t think it’s stress,” Jasmine shook her head. “It is the noise I keep hearing, but…” she licked her lips in anticipation, “my mind was so perfectly quiet from meditation even with the interruption…I sensed the energy shift around me, like an invisible someone or something was nearby. Unless I am going completely insane,” the witch grinned again, “at least I don’t think I’m ill anymore. I know, I know—only I could get this excited over a development in my…er, abilities.”

Hel grinned, “that’s great! For the not worrying about being ill anymore, and the ability development. Which leads me to why I was so excited to find you, only to see you were momentarily comatose.” Jasmine narrowed her eyes, in that way that says You are an utter nutter and why do I bother trying to have a serious conversation with you. Which Hel ignored and continued, “Have you given any thought to how you are going to wear your hair for the Yule Ball?”

Jasmine tugged at a lock of her sleek black hair. “Not especially. Why?”

“Because I spent all morning perfecting a look,” Hel returned, “and wanted your thoughts. So, yeah, close your eyes for a moment while I do my thing.” After Jem closed her eyes as requested, the other witch began.

Harlequin breathed in deeply, concentrating on the transformation she had practiced earlier. The witch’s hair twisted and turned, twining together, forming solid ‘bodies’ and turning an emerald green. The tips of her hair turned into dozens of tiny little snake heads, eyes glistening, mouths opening with soft hisses, and little red tongues slipping in and out, transforming Hel into a modern day image of Medusa. “Okay, open your eyes!”

Jasmine’s mouth dropped open at the sight of Harlequin’s new “look.” Recovering herself quickly, the ebon-haired witch nodded. “I like it.” She reached out and gingerly brushed her fingers along one of the ‘snakes.’ “There is an element of raw beauty. Quite fetching and befitting of you, Hel.”

Hel laughed slightly, “don’t suppose it’s an all night look,” she returned. “But it’d be fun to start out the night anyway. See if I can get some people to jump a bit.” Shaking her head a moment, the snakes fell apart, becoming a waterfall of white, in which a set of red and a set of black stripes slipped into place. “You know,” Harlequin began once more, regarding her friend’s dark locks, “you could do something with crystals,” reaching out she made a circular motion around the top of Jem’s head, “something like a snow drop or ice crystal crown. It would look quite lovely in comparison, enchanting even.” Hel nodded at her thought.

Jasmine glanced up, trying to imagine what that might look like. A smile found its way to her lips. “Actually, I like that idea. Quite inspiring, really. Like the crystal ice flower I saw in Hogsmeade.”

Hel smiled, “I’m sure it was quite beautiful, it’s a shame it disappeared. Maybe we should go see if we can find some more sometime soon. I’m sure fresh air is good for developing abilities.”
