i've seen a lot of opendiary refugees making their way to bloop, and i've been hoping that it will jumpstart this place back into action. for quite some time now, people have been complaining that the bloop "community" is dying. on the surface, i've been thinking "pfft, what community? i come here to write the things in my head for myself, and i don't care if anyone reads them"... then i stop myself.
i have met 5 bloopers in person. one of those flew from washington to stay with me. another has visited me (and vice versa) from michigan several times. she even brought her visiting-from-australia boyfriend to spend new years at my place a few years ago. i consider her my little sister and we talk every chance we get. i met yet another blooper while on holiday last year. [edit: actually 6 bloopers; i forgot the time i met someone at random - she recognized me while i was shopping in her store.]
there are a number of other bloopers that i keep up with on facebook, instagram, etc. i've been invited to a blooper's wedding. i've donated to their funds for various things. i've reconnected with people who don't even write here anymore, thru other avenues. so yeah, i'd say we have a nice little bloop community here.
i was talking with a friend earlier, who i actually met over on opendiary waaaay back in the day. we figure we've "known" each other for 13 years. that is longer than either of us have known a lot of the people we hang out with in real life. longer than we've known our partners, our college friends, our work colleagues. she is fantastic, and might even start writing on bloop. i hope she does.
holy shit you guys!! i was writing this entry, and got distracted when my husband came home. he had picked up the mail and there was A PACKAGE FROM A BLOOPER! for real. it caught me so off-guard. it's from amanda and it's CANDY! that she MAKES! aaaaah! so cute! it had an adorable little note and it tastes delicious. she is just the loveliest! (psst: check out steel city candy when she really gets rolling).

i've found myself having similar thoughts about bloop lately--hoping all the opendiary refugees will put a little life back in here, missing the bloop of years gone by. this place used to be a really thriving and tightknit community, and i have so many close friends that i've made through this place who i still talk to regularly, even if they aren't apart of this site any longer. i find myself wondering at times if bloop will ever reach that point again.

those candies look delicious!!

What awesome timing to be interrupted by post from a blooper, it couldn't have been better timed. Getting the community back a bit would be nice, I think most people here have fallen into the trap of talking to the same people. Getting some fresh blood in this place can't be bad.

it really was perfect timing. literally could not have been more perfect.
i think that you're right about talking to the same people, like little cliques. not that having that group of friends is a bad thing, but variety is the spice of life, right? especially on a site like this where you could meet so many people in situations outside of the box you're in.

Some of the best people I know are from Bloop. When I think about knowing you for SO long, since I was fourteen or fifteen--when I think about Sarah, and what it meant to lose her even though she had never been physically in my life. And knowing Kayla and Katie and Katia and telling people in real life stories about people I'd only read about. I don't know. There's so much more to this small community of people than the internet. It's crazy.

it really is. bitch, you came to my wedding reception!!
i think that what skewed my perspective was that a lot of "bloop friends" have spilled over to real life friends, facebook chats, tumblr posts, etc., that i forget where it all started.
i'd love to meet some awesome new people, too, so maybe opendiary shutting down will be good for this place (specifically for me).

I want a package like that!! lol

I've met two people I've met through diary sites. Both are my best friends. One, Mindy, I met through teen open diary and Jenna I met here. You do meet some great people on these sites.

I started here at Bloop for similar reasons, but the people I have met through here have really changed my world. I'm glad I've met you and I'm really hoping the "refugees" find solace here at Bloop!

THAT LOOKS AMAZING. And I am glad we can reconnect on here again too!
