My Gram and her revisionist history ...

Cause he would have been so wonderful...

So... we went to my cousins graduation party yesterday.
It was fun for the most part. Except my grandma is insane. Or a huge fan of revisionist history.
Because when we were getting ready to leave, I was carrying Elora around to say goodbye to Jake (the cousin who's party it was... PS the kid is going to Virginia Tech for PREMED! My baby cousin wants to be a pediatrician!!!!!) and various other family members, and I hear my grandma talking to my other aunt's mom.

She said that I had forced Pete to stay away from me and Elora. That he had not only wanted to be a part of our lives, but that he probably would have married me.
She blamed me and said that she felt bad because Elora was growing up without a father and wouldn't have a "normal life".
But at least she has my parents to give her a good example. Gram also said that she was surprised that I was acting like a mom and taking care of my child instead of passing her off to my mom and dad. She expected me to pretty much abandon my baby and let my parents raise her while I went off and behaved like a dumb drunk slut.
Cause that's the only way a single girl gets "into trouble"
Oh and she's also shocked that I haven't gotten pregnant again already.

Seriously? Really? What the fuck?
What.
The.
Fuck.

In reality...

Pete told me that he though I should have an abortion. And when I said that I was keeping the baby, he asked me not to tell his parents.
He has nothing to do with me or my daughter.
We don't speak.

So where exactly did my gram get the ridiculous notion that he would have married me if I had let him?
And I pushed him away?
Yeah, cause "I'm not ready to be a parent. It would be better if you didn't have it." that sure sounds like he's chomping at the bit to be a part of our lives.

I'm seriously so mad I'm numb. I couldn't even think to say anything to her.
I kind of want to skip out on family stuff now.
Too bad the next big event is Elora's Birthday... and gram is already invited.
My dad would be upset if I told him his mother wasn't aloud to come I guess.

sometimes family can say the most hurtful things. i think the best thing to do is keep proving her wrong by being an awesome mom and if she says anything like that directly to you, say its hurtful and you cant believe she would think of you like that. in all honesty its not her business, but the older parents and grandparents get, they think they know best about everything, even if they have no idea about what happened at all =/

The thing that kills me is that she does know what really happened. She just has this way of rearranging things in her head so that she's always right and things have to be the way that she wants them to be. If it doesn't work out the way she wants it to, she does this. She's just never been this... ridiculous about it.

i don't even know what to say to this. though i, too, am not surprised, considering what you've already said about her.

i am so angry. though i don't even want to insult her or say anything sarcastic or whatever about her because she literally is not worth the energy to put a thought together about her.

i'm going to come to Elora's party and purposely talk about what a good mom you are in front of her.

You don't have to say anything around her. She won't listen anyway. She's always shocked that I act like a mom, having determined before Elora was born, that my parents were going to take responsibility for the baby. Since I didn't have enough money to take care of a kid.
Pretty much she's 20lbs of crazy bitch in a 5lb bag.
She's not really worth worrying over. I just needed to vent.

She's old. It's not an excuse by any means, but its true. She thinks men are supposed to do the 'honorable thing' regardless of the situation. Times have changed- don't let it get to you. Its a mentality she grew up with and will prob. never change.

It was just the fact that she said I forced him away and that he would have married me. The guy told me he wanted me to have an abortion.
I told her all of this when I told her I was pregnant.
She just likes to rewrite history in her head so that she's right and knows everything.
