An Italian woman who arrived late for the Air France plane flight that crashed in the Atlantic last week has been killed in a car accident.

Johanna Ganthaler, a pensioner from Bolzano-Bozen province, had been on holiday in Brazil with her husband Kurt and missed Air France Flight 447 after turning up late at Rio de Janeiro airport on May 31.

All 228 people aboard lost their lives after the plane crashed into the Atlantic four hours into its flight to Paris.

The ANSA news agency reported that the couple had managed to pick up a flight from Rio the following day.

It said that Ms Ganthaler died when their car veered across a road in Kufstein, Austria, and swerved into an oncoming truck. Her husband was seriously injured.

The minute I told my dad this story, his instant reply was "Fate." (well, essentially since he didn't say it in English XD).

But... yeah. I mean, yeah I can see that.

But it's also easy to say that it's fate when she actually died so soon.

Wow. I was thinking the same thing: Final Destination. That's pretty scary and I feel really bad for her family.

I went to school with a girl years ago who got her long hair caught in a metal working lathe. If someone had not been with her she could well have been killed after having her head pulled into the lathe.
The next day, her mother tried to get her to stay home from school but she was insistant she wnted to go. She stepped off the kerb to cross the road to the bus stop nd was hit by a truck.
So yeah...when its time to go..

i don't believe in fate, but mathematically the odds of that happening are small. unfortunately all i can think of is the "anti-miracle" like, "miracles" happen, then extraordinary shit things also happen.

hopefully she's in a better place, if one exists.

Her car swerved into an oncoming truck? Could it have been suicide? I imagine it's a hard thing to deal with knowing 228 people died and you should have been one of them. Maybe she wasn't coping.

she was all like, "FUCK! I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE ON THAT PLANE ... I CHEATED DEATH, CHEAAA!!"
and death replied, "FUCK YOU."

i feel really bad for her family though ...
imaging being startled, but then being relaxed after realizing your loved one is still safe in your arms, and then out of nowhere being jolted into an accident so unlikely ....
