What is your opinion? Do you think the media is causing wide spread panic unneccessarily? Or do you feel as though we, as a whole people, are taking this too lightly?

The media's making money off it anyway.

There were like 8 cases in the United States, all of which fully recovered.

It's the flu.

It's all hype.

The numbers of people actually dying from this are low. I mean, around the world, at least tens of thousands of adults and children die every year from the measles - but that doesn't make the news.

I'd be curious to find out the ages of those who have died from the swine flu - I wouldn't be surprised to find that the majority are the elderly, who are already at a much greater risk of contracting a disease and dying from it.

I think it's good to inform people to be extra careful, but people panic WAY too easily. If people just knew that when they saw symptoms, go to the doctor, instead of thinking it might just be a regular flu, then they can get treatment. The last thing I read said that there were still some meds to which it wasn't resistant, right?

well its already claimed lives off 150 people!! so i think its a bit more worrying than bird flu, there are too people in the UK who are in hospital with it as they caught it from mexico, it is worrying but hopefully they can get it under control

I've seen people walking around with surgical masks on. It's getting ridiculous. Yes I know it's dangerous, but seriously, isn't that a bit extreme?

A child died in Texas this morning from the swine flu. It's spreading. Hopefully people start taking extra precautions and paying attention to hygiene to help keep the virus away!

the child that died this morning, in Texas, was from Mexico. He//she didn't get it in Texas, they already had it when they came into the U.S.

Oh wait, I see...there have been TWO in Texas. One boy, one girl. I was thinking about the girl, you must have been talking about the boy.

That child also showed symptoms of the flu three weeks ago. Had her parents taken her to the doctor, she could have been given antivirals and recovered. :(

Ok, but three weeks ago nobody knew there was a swine flu outbreak. And not all parents feel it is necessary to take your child in to the doctor as soon as they show signs of illness to get on antivirals. Some of us let it work itself out, and unless we've been given reason to suspect something more serious than a normal flu, we're not going to bother with a doctor.

Well, I'm sorry, but if my kid had the flu for longer than a week, she'd be going to the doctor. If anything, she'd probably need an IV to prevent hydration. But that's just me. I don't think it's a matter of just working itself out after three weeks.
