Politically incorrect

01/30/2012

The second Hudson in my assembly line build.

I still need to get the automotive clear on this one but I got the decals on and they look great. The irony of this car is that Frank “Rebel” Mundy’s real name was Francisco Menendez and his rebel flag adorned race car was sponsored by a dealer in Milwaukee, WI. At least it was in “South” Milwaukee.

Mundy would bring a 45 RPM record of “Dixie” to the races with him and give it to the track announcer to play. At one track the cars were out practicing and seeing Mundy come onto the track the announcer introduced him as “Rebel” Mundy and played the record. Mundy stopped his car on the track, got out to stand at attention, and almost got run over! Frank Mundy’s first win was right here, at Columbia Speedway in 1951. He was driving a Studebaker for that race.
