I’ll be leaving town after work Thursday for a long (and probably rather wet) weekend in north Georgia. The Petit LeMans 1000 mile endurance race for sports cars will be held at Road Atlanta this weekend, I’ll be at the track Friday and Saturday. The forecast still calls for a 40% chance of thunderstorms and the red clay is already saturated so it could be messy. For those not familiar with Georgia Red Clay, it doesn’t make typical mud but rather it just absorbs water like a sponge while becoming slippery and sticky. Wet red clay sticks to absolutely everything! I’m bringing some extra changes of clothes, just in case.
The long weekend also means I’ll be out of contact. I’ll be staying at the cabin of a friend, there’s no internet and there have been times when I had to walk 30 yards up the hill to find a cell phone signal! At least he has a satellite dish for television now, I expect that I’ll be too tired to watch much TV though.
Here are some photos from last year's race, to give an idea what sort of racing it is.
