Ida know

11/10/2009

We’re experiencing the northernmost reaches of Tropical Storm Ida today. It’s been rainy and miserable all day, and I think I just heard thunder outside. All in all, a good day for sleeping or snuggling. Neither of which I’m able to do since I’m at work!

I’ve felt somewhat crappy since I did that sniper rifle testing last week. Part of it is my neck, I injured it pretty badly in 1979 when I crashed the race car I was driving at the time. It’s been unforgiving of awkward positions since then and when I reached the age of 40 arthritis settled into it. I’ve been to the doctor on several occasions, they can’t do anything for me to help. I had to hold my neck in an awkward position while firing the rifle, and every time it would recoil it would jerk my head and put stress on my neck. I also suspect that the fumes and particulates I breathed didn’t help my condition. I awoke early on both Sunday and Monday morning with very bad headaches in my sinus areas and I’ve just felt slightly weak/numb in my extremities since then. I finally got a good night’s sleep last night though, I fell asleep at 10:30 and slept soundly all night long. I seem to feel a bit better today.

I did take advantage of the gorgeous weekend weather to wash my car Sunday afternoon. I don’t think it’s been washed since Easter! Fortunately that one sits in the garage so my washing wasn’t in vain.

I found out just this week that the Bad Guy who killed and injured all those people at Ft. Hood used a pistol like I have. An FN Five-seveN, or as the Brady Commission refers to it, the Cop Killer pistol (cue violent music). Disregarding the fact that there are exactly zero known cases of the pistol being used to kill a law enforcement officer, and disregarding the fact that the body armor-piercing ammunition for it is only available to Military and law enforcement personnel, it’s still just a pistol and considerably less lethal (and less capable of piercing body armor) than any number of hunting and sporting rifles that any deer and small- or medium-game hunter has in his or her possession. I suppose they’ll call for a ban on this handgun now.
