'Teen Mom' Amber Portwood Under Investigation for Domestic Violence

they did what?! Celeb News & GossipAmber Portwood is under investigation for violence depicted in an episode of 'Teen Mom'
April Chieffo

Amber Portwood is best known for having camera’s follow her as she and boyfriend Gary Shirley raise their daughter, 2-year-old Leah, on Teen Mom. But the same show that brought her to fame may also bring her trouble.

According to E! Online, the 20-year-old “teen mom” is under investigation for domestic violence based on abuse she demonstrated in last week’s Teen Mom episode. The camera’s captured Portwood kicking, punching, and knocking boyfriend Gary’s head in.

Though the incident took place almost six months ago, an investigation by Indiana's Anderson police is underway. Child Protective Services is also reportedly looking into the situation.

"Due to the fact the couple was out of town for the past three weeks, we have not been able to interview either party," spokesman Mitch Carroll said. "The situation gets complicated because the incident happened six months ago, but we just received the complaint when the episode aired.”

"The couple returned home several days ago and we are hoping to talk to Amber and Gary soon," Carroll added. "At that point, we will know our direction and launch a formal investigation."

Portwood could face serious charges, including misdemeanor assault and/or battery. In the state of Indiana, engaging in any domestic violence in front of a child under the age of 14 is considered a felony. Camera’s depicted that the 2-year-old was in fact in the room when the incident occurred.

Camera crew members for the show could also face misdemeanor charges for failure to report abuse.

No charges have yet been filed.

I didn't think they really had a right to do anything unless the boyfriend pressed charges.

but at the same time, the abuse was aired on tv and if they don't do anything that's telling any would-be abusers in IN that they can get away with it as long as no one is brave enough to press charges. It's not unusual to see "state v. defendant" cases.

Also: "In the state of Indiana, engaging in any domestic violence in front of a child under the age of 14 is considered a felony" it's not likely that a child is going to press charges for violence in front of her. =P (said in good humour, no offense, I hope)

The state often picks up the charges if the victim doesn't. Pretty commn practice now days. She should face charges, otherwise she will continue to do it! This girl has major anger issues!
