Bloop v3: Latest developments

05/30/2011

It's been a while since I last updated on v3, so I thought I'd make a post.

Subdomains
Subdomains now work (try steve.bloopdiary.com). Every Bloop user will have their own subdomain for their diary. (There will also be an optional package available for full domain hosting, so if I owned sweetsteve.com I could host my diary there using Bloop)

Security
In an effort to increase security, it is now mandatory to login from the login page. If you click the button in the top left corner, it'll take you to the login page rather than submitting the details from there. Your password is also automatically encrypted prior to it being sent (this will be in additional to HTTPS).

You can now change your diary permalink which is reflected in your subdomain.

CSS
You can add CSS into your diary, it is automatically rewritten when viewed to work with Bloop's core. Diary pages have lots of class tags available for styling.

Comments
You can leave comments, and you can read all your received comments. Virtual indexes are not coded yet so it's a little slow.

Entries
You can post new entries and edit them. There can also edit your entry header and footer.

Browser
Bloop knows what you're using - it also knows if you're using a mobile browser, and makes some changes to improve performance & experience.

WYSIWYG / HTML Editor
You can turn the WYSIWYG / HTML editor on and off wherever it has been loaded.

Main page
The main page automatically adjusts itself to view on any screen size.

Plans:

Droid, iPhone and BlackBerry apps
Yes - I plan to release apps for the major three mobile devices. The site will also be compatible with most phone browsers.

How old Bloop will migrate into the new Bloop
Version 2 of Bloop (that's what we're using right now) is the live version. Version 3 is not completely ready yet, and they are both essentially different sites with different database. Because of this, you cannot use your current account to log in to version 3 - you must create a new account.

When version 3 is ready, all the data in version 2 will be migrated to version 3 - that means your account details, entries, comments, messages, friends lists, and anything else you can think of unless otherwise noted by me. Version 3 will also be wiped prior to this migration, so anything you write there right now should be backed up.

Any other questions, post them in a comment here!

If we need to create an entirely new account on V3, how is the data going to be transferred from V2 to V3?

Like, we make a new account and raise a ticket with our old info or something?

You can create a new account on v3 right now, but when the data is migrated all the new accounts at v3 will be wiped.

Then the data from v2 will be migrated (ie. all accounts, diaries, entries etc.)

OH! Gotcha. I mis-read that. I thought you were saying when V3 goes live we'll have to create a whole new account.

I live on my htc desire, so the droid app will be great! Small thing, but will that be able to be saved to the SD card? It would be much appreciated!

What does WYSIWYG actually mean? It looks like one of those internet acronym thingies - Why You Should Interact With Yellow Goblins or something.

Is that the name of a type of forum code??

No, WYSIWYG = What You See Is What You Get. It means that whatever you type and do in the HTML editor is what you'll see in the final document.

Haha - I thought because you wrote WYSIWYG/HTML that you were showing two possible different types of coding. Kind of like BB/HTLM. Or iPhone/Android - like two different brands of the same thing!

But all is clear now!

I will definitely use it a lot more when it goes mobile and gets app for android. Might even donate once in a while, seeing I will be here tons more than I am.
