Dalila was watching her mother garden when a moving truck pulled in two houses down. She was looking curiously at her new neighbors as they opened the doors and got out.

“Momma. Who’s that?” Dalila asked pointing to the little boy running in circles.

“I’m not sure honey. They are new to the area.”

“Oh.”

At five years old Dalila didn’t have many friends and none that lived close enough to play with during the summer. She smile at the boy when he finally stopped running and collapsed on the grass. He sat up and looked over at her. Slowly he waved and smiled, he was missing his two front teeth. Dalila let out a small giggle then looked at her mother.

“Could we go meet them?” she pleaded.

“They are busy Dalila. Moving is a lot of work.”

“Please momma! Look.” she pointed to the boy waving her over. “Please?” she said again, her pale blue eyes big as can be.

Finally her mother, Amy, nodded. She stood up and brushed some of the dirt off of her pants and tossed her gloves to the ground. Walking over to their new neighbors, Amy noticed the boy and Dalila were about the same age. She smile down at him and he started jumping up and down with a giant grin on his face. She caught sight of his parents and went to introduce their selves.

“Hello there. We just wanted to… Patricia?”

The boys mother turned around and gasped. Her green eyes grew larger as she looked at Amy.

“Amy!” The two women hugged while Dalila and the boy looked at each other, confused.

“I can’t believe this!” Amy chuckled.

“Tony!” Patricia yelled into the house. “Come here I want you to meet someone!” A tall, slender man with thinning dark brown hair came out walking out.

“Yeah?”

“This is Amy. We used to go to high school together.”

“Nice to meet you” he took Amy’s hand in his with a brief shake.

“Like wise.”

Amy grabbed Dalila’s hand and gently pulled her towards the people. “This is my daughter, Dalila.”

Dalila smile sweetly at them, then turned to the little boy.

“And this,” Patricia gestured towards the boy. “is our son, Bryce.”
