Honest Opinons only

12/18/2008

Smile...

All right now I want honest opinions. No sympathy... because I was on. No... nothing, just the cold, hard, blunt, ruthless truth. Nothing else.

At my school we had a big jar full of candy for the holidays and everyone got to guess how many was in it. My science teacher decided he would tackle this the smart way, and found the approximate volume of the jar and the different candies inside. He calculated that there were like over 1000 pieces of candy in the jar.

I thought it would be hilarious if he was incredibly wrong. You know, he went through all of that work and that math and then turned out to be like 200+ wrong. I was telling my friends this at lunch.

Natalie, one of my friends... well this was our conversation.

Natalie: "You know, Rachel. Mr. !science teacher! is actually really smart. He got a 29 on the ACT and only took it once.

Me: I got a 29 on the ACT the first time.

Nat: "Yeah, well, you took it twice. I bet if he had taken it again, he would have gotten better."

Me: I don't see what this has to do with anything. I still got a 29. *I have taken it twice, once last April as a Sophomore and got a 29, and once this October as a Junior and got a 29.*

Nat: WEll he is a lot smarter than you.

Me: Yeah, he went college. Of course he is a lot smarter than me.

Now, at this point I am not too sure what order things were said in. And I know each of us said more than just those few lines, and the last 2 lines above are prolly a tad bit out of order. But I know we said them at least at point during the conversation. Needless to say this goes on, back and forth of her saying that he is smart and smarter than me, and me saying well duh, he is a teacher, he is supposed to be smarter than me. Finally, I just got so mad. This is the last bit of the convo. Also take into account that both of us are mad, and yelling at each other.

Me: You know what, at least I didn't get a 21 on my ACT.

Everyone else: *stares at me like I am nuts*

Me: Yes, I went there.

Katie: (another friend of mine) That was really mean. You know, Rachel, I haven't taken the ACT yet, and I don't think I will get that (21) good. *she gets up to dump her tray*

Natalie: Well, I'm going to go because the company hear sucks.

Me: Whatever, I don't care.

All right, so you now you know what was said. And I really just want to know what other people think. Was I a complete and total cold and heartless bitch? Did she deserve it, or something maybe less harsh? Anything, and everything you can think of and want to comment on.

I am pretty sure she (Natalie) was telling her friend Chelsea about what I had said at lunch. Because as I am sitting doing my art, quietly, cause I really don't feel like talking. And well, Chelsea had come into the art room and I her and Natalie were talking for the longest time ever so quietly, and I just have this weird feeling that she was telling Chelsea what a bitch I was being.

And then at the end of the day, I was in my car, just about ready to leave. But I was like, all right, we might have a snow day tomorrow. I need to make sure I have my History Family Tree stuff incase I'm not at school tomorrow. And well, I turned off my car, grabbed my keys and asked the person to hold the door. (The doors I park by are locked from the outside.) And well, she didn't hear me and the door had closed.

And then Brittany and Jessica (Brittany and Jessica are two of my other friends) and this other girl that is irrelevant, well they saw me standing there right after the door closed and were standing in the little entry way. Well, Brittany just stood there with this smirk on her face and I mouthed a "Fuck you" and walked all the way around the school to go in the front doors to grab my binder for history and then, I was still pissed so I flipped Jessica off as she drove away. Immature, hell yes... I think... I don't know. But it was a freaking door!!! They didn't even have to hold it, just walk outside like they planned on doing!

It is just so frustrating, because they don't get it. My intelligence is all that I have, I don't have rich parents to fall back on, or a sport I'm great at, an amazing socializing person. Natalie just dismissed it. All I had said about our science teacher is that it would be funny if he was wrong... you know, because he put all of that work into it, and it would be ironic. And she just said that, and it is like, What the fuck! But yeah... please, please... PLEASE comment. I really want to know if I was being a bitch.

It's not your fault she got a low score on her ACTs. If she didn't take the exam again, she has no right to expect sympathy because of it. She brought up your scores, so she should have expected you to bring up her scores.

If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

I think the arguement was really petty and childish... I think that you both said some really hurtful stuff and that you both need to stop acting like the teenagers you are and grow up and apologize. For christs sake, I never took an ACT yet I scored the highest out of all the nursing students in my class. Who gives a crap? Apologize. You were throwing low blows and even continued to act like a baby in the parking lot.

You both were mean bitches.

When I read what you said about the score, I said "Ouch!". Because, yes, it was kind of low. And I don't think it was a fair comparison.

When I was in high school, one of my friends pretty much pranced around because she got a 21. Most of the others got about 17-19 and thought she had done really well. Another one of my friends got a 15, and she was astonished by friends 21 {imagine her face when I told her I got a 29!}. Basically what I'm trying to say is that a 21 is a pretty good score for "average" people. See, you're not average Rachee. You're above average in intelligence, and while, yes you may think your 29 is low and want to take it again to raise it, a lot of people don't agree, and a lot of people think a 21 is good.

I know it's a hard concept to grasp, but that's the truth. I saw it in my high school days, and I basically had to accept that I was above average, and yes, --even though I hate to say it-- smarter than most my friends.

Now, I also don't think the comparison between you and your science teacher is really a good one. It's not necessarily that he's smarter than you -- it's just that he's learned more. He's older and he's been through college and he's had the chance to learn. How do you compare than with your schooling? A college degree can't really be compared to a high school junior education.

So, let's see. I think the 21 comment was a bit low and wasn't a fair comparison. I think there are better things that you could have said, but I probably would have said the same thing. I don't think it was exactly bitchy, but I don't think you should "flaunt" your intelligence - even in the heat of the moment. I also think she should have just laughed at the joke, cuz c'mon, it was funny! xD

Hmm. I probably would've gotten mad at her for that too. That so sounds like what one of my friends would have said if I said the thing about the science teacher to her. But anyways, you were mad & mad people tend to do childish things. Humans are what they are~ they lash out & anger is one of their weaknesses. I think you were being a bitch, but she was too. But I would've done something similar to what you did in your situation; maybe its because I get frustrated easily. Natalie should have expected you to say something though back to what she said; she would have been a fool not to. So I think it was completely immature, childish, & definitely human of you.
