My birthday week end

03/04/2009

First, I want to thank everyone for the birthday wishes.

Who’s excited about their birthday? If the 3 hours of sleep I got Friday night was any indication, I certainly was excited for my birthday. Waking up at 4, not being able to go back to sleep, I ended up just playing games and looking at sport’s news and stats. I sent my mom an email and wrote the email that was in my last entry to Jared. Here is the email I sent to my mom. I will explain the bed part after.

SUBJECT: just older
Its my birthday!
Yes, mom, I may be a year older, but that's alright with me.

I love this song, especially what he says about a bed. ...
I attached the song for you to listen to.
I love you
Jonathan

I like the bed I'm sleeping in
It's just like me, it's broken in
It's not old - just older
Like a favorite pair of torn blue jeans
This skin I'm in it's alright with me
It's not old - just older

I love my bed and refuse to rid of it. I realize that it will be 28 years old come April, but there is nothing wrong with it. Its not broken. It’s just ironic that I found lyrics that expresses how I feel about my bed.

About 8 I got up and took a shower. Because we were going to a nice restaurant for dinner, I put on nice dress pants and my favorite collared shirt. A redsox one that was made of a soft cotton. I went up stairs for breakfast and my mom surprised me. I knew she was making me pancakes, but the strawberries and whip cream was a present surprise.

My sister and I was going to meet my twin, Justin, and his wife, Lindsay at Foxwoods casino in Connecticut between 11 and noon. We got there at 11;30 and they were not even close so we started playing. My sister never gambled with me before. She put me on a 5 quarter slot machine. That 20 went quick. I had her bring me to a penny machine. (yes they are penny machines, but you can bet up to $2.50 at a time) Justin and Lindsay found us and we went for lunch. We go to an all you can eat buffet that has everything. Lindsay paid for us too. It was nice of her to do that. I started off with a big salad Justin made for me at the salad bar. Amanda got me a bowl of pesto and pasta that was very good. Justin got me dumplings and eggrolls and I had seconds of those. My sister handed me a chicken nugget and told me to try it. I don’t care much for chicken, but I like chicken nuggets so I took a bite… ggrroossss. It must be real chicken and not the chicken fast food places uses. I had dessert too. A piece of an apple pie and a cherry cobbler those were Delicious.
It was back to the casino. I tried to stay with Lindsay because she knows the types of machines I like. I have gambled with her on a few occasions. Justin spent time at the poker table than played video poker so we didn’t see him much. My sister found a cool machine that I never played before. Its not as fun as my favorite machine, “cash man” or an old favorite that Lindsay reintroduced me to, party pooper, but I will have to try it again. I don’t remember the name of it. It had the word king in the name. hmm. Nikki called me when I was playing cashman. It was nice to get her call.
I over all did pretty bad but I expected I was going to lose. You should only bring as much money as you can afford to rip up. My gambling was cut short because we had reservations at 7 and it was 4;30 plus we had to pick up Justin’s friend Jeff and Justin and Lindsay had to change clothes. The good thing was they had brought the clothes with them. (not sure why they didn’t wear them to the casino, but what ever) Justin said my gift was next to me and that I could take out the shirt. So I did. I took out the shirt and tried to figure out the writing on the shirt but couldn’t. He told me it was one word repeated written 4 times. The words went from black to a light black, to gray to a light gray. I was puzzled. He told me the word was “back” THAT IS AWESOME! I LOVE IT. You know, not many people would get it. (during the baseball homerun derby during the the all star week end and during espn games and highlights, when someone hits a long fly ball, the commentator says “back back back”.
We picked up Jeff and we heard about his latest date he had that day. I showed him the shirt because… he would be one of the few that would understand it. He liked the shirt too. Justin had me call dad to tell him we were running a bit late and that we were going to stop at the house so Justin and Lindsay could change.
Jeff says to me “are you doing anything April 25th?” ME “no, why?” “good now you do, you are going to a Yankee game” My mouth dropped opened and I was in a paralyzed shock, trying to grasp what he just said. “happy birthday. I got picked on the Redsox opportunity.” All I could say was “wow, thanks!” He said “you are so easy to buy for. Just get you tickets to a game (a game? This is not just a game here! Hello?! This is a RedSox Yankee game!) but I knew what he meant when my mind settled down)) unlike your brother, who has to check his calendar and make sure it works for him. You, just get you tickets and you’ll be there.
*I know that he was chosen to get the opportunity to get the tickets, but this is definitely tied for the best gift I were to get. And … He isn’t even my friend.*
We got to my house and I had to go in to use the bathroom. Justin and Lindsay changed and Jeff didn’t want to stay in the car by himself. After using the bathroom I went into my room for a second. I realized Jeff had not seen my chairs from Fenway Park I bought in December that are in my room. I called him down and pointed at it he goes “wwoww, that is awesome” Then he spent some time (I guess he never really looked around my room before at all my sports memorabilia.)
We all got back in the car and headed to the restaurant.

This is a nice, classy restaurant. So we walk in and tell them our parties already here, reservation for Jonathan. They lead us down stairs to a table for 8. My parents were there with my uncle Joe. My older brother, Robert, shortly arrived. (did I mention we left my sister at the casino? She was going to a friend’s party in CT later on, so it all worked out) We made small talk, as we were deciding what we wanted. My twin and I knew what we wanted. I was going to get the teriyaki stake and he was going to get teriyaki chicken. Others got combo of fish, Ribs, chickens and stakes. When the drinks came, we toasted, for a happy birthday. They have a salad bar so for the second time in a day, I had a big salad. I was happy. However, I wasn’t so happy with my stake. At first I wasn’t sure if it was me or the stake so I had my dad try it. He said if I didn’t like it to just have it sent back. It was too chewy for me. My uncle Joe had left to use the bathroom and he had been gone for over ten minutes. We were making fun of him. Saying that he probably ran into some nice looking guy. We also realized that his phone was at the table, so it wasn’t like we could call him to tell him the food was here. Then someone said that he ran into a famous actor and the guy was going to give Joe his number, but then Joe realized he had left it at the table and was trying to find paper and pen. … He eventually came back and told us he ran into people from his home town. my stake came out again eventually. It was much more soft and tasted much better. The rice was good too. I know there wasn’t a grain of rice left on my plate. Then we had dessert. Most of us had fried ice-cream with either chocolate or caramel on it. OH was that Delicious. They sang happy birthday to us. It was funny, within a minute of us, there was another table singing happy birthday and before we left, a 3rd table. (if you go on your birthday, the birthday meal is half price) We left the restaurant, all stuffed and wobbling out heading for the house for presents.
I got a bag with my goodies in it from my parents. First was a book on cd. It was “the Yankee years” by Joe Torre and Tom Verducci. Then there was a ticket. My mom said “I can’t wait to see Jonathan’s face when we tell him” I pulled out a ticket. My mom says “you are going to see Boston pop with Keith Lockheart” waaah? Why would I want to see that? I was thinking, is Bon Jovi going to be there or something? My mom responded to my facial reaction telling me that it is a baseball night, they are going to play all baseball songs. Surprise face to a happy face. COOL! And here is what I found about it…
“In his 15th year as Conductor of the Boston Pops, Keith Lockhart returns to the podium for the orchestra’s 124th season. The season is highlighted by the launch of the Pops’ brand-new Red Sox Album and scheduled for release on Monday, April 6, the opening day of the Red Sox season. Continuing the season theme, America’s Favorite Pastime, music from the new CD, along with baseball-themed segments featuring celebrity narrators and film clips, will be featured in programs throughout the Boston Pops’ 2009 season.”

After the presents, they headed out. My parents and I went to Kowloons, a Chinese restaurant, for a birthday drink. The bar itself was packed and the DJ was playing the music just as loud. There was tables and chairs in the hall with a keno screen, so I decided we could stay and sit in the hall. So we went to go play keno and a professional boxer that my mom knows, Richey LaMontagne, walked up to us and talked to us for a few minutes. He hasn’t fought recently but he was in NY doing a reality show that will be on Bravo, about a boxer and all the hard work that goes into training for a fight. My mom told him we were here because it was my birthday. He wished me a happy birthday. Then he went to go pick up his food. We sat down and my dad got the drinks. I had a red dragon which is a ruby red great fruit martini. I usually get that when I don’t feel like a sweet strawberry daquery. Richey came over to me and handed me a lottery ticket and wished me happy birthday again and said bye to my parents. I was presently surprised.
I didn’t do well with keno and after a second drink, we went home.
I talked to Nikki before I went to sleep. She told me that she is going to take me to a Mets game in their new stadium. I am very excited about that.
It was a good birthday.

SUNDAY
There was some snow in the morning, canceling my college roommate and his twin 3 year old girls and my older brother, my twin and his wife.
The Celtics game had began at 1 so when people started coming shortly after 2, I was at the kitchen table watching the game. My best friend John and sister watched the game with me. My mom had out pickies. I had a few eggrolls. John was talking about the bathtize of his son in two week and how the priest had came to his house to talk about it. The priest had asked John about his beliefs. John said that he was indifference. He told the priest “well I don’t see why I have to go to a church to pray.” His wife Kat then spoke and gave her spiel about how she is religious. The priest had asked John not to say anything at the bathtism. I made a comment about how to me, Jesus was a Jewish guy who just… well I don’t want to make anyone mad but John said “You have to open my card. It is a perfect time. He had Kat read it. He said that Kat hasn’t seen it yet. He picked it out all by himself and didn’t even let his wife read it. He signed her name on the card. It was… a very religious Easter card. At the end John wrote “happy birthday”. We were all cracking up as Kat was reading it. There was tickets for the Presidents of the United States. It’s one of John’s favorite groups. He knows that I will go. Eventually we had Sausages, hotdogs, chicken and other things. My mom made coleslaw and pasta salad. It was all very yummy. When the game was over, I went to the dining room to chat with everyone else and have dessert. My mom put my cake… well, sorta. It was better than a cake. It was a triful. My mom lit a candle and people sang happy birthday and we all had dessert. Then it was time to open presents. First it was a card from my grand parents. It was a very appropriate card for me. It had all types of sports balls on the cover and it says something like “hope your year is filled with fun. My number 1 sport.” There was a check for 100 dollars in it. My sister got me a single ticket to see… BOYZIIMEN! One of my favorite groups of all time. I was waiting for them to say something like “and Justin got the other ticket” but they didn’t. I went on and opened my aunty Sarah’s card, in it was a single ticket to Boyziimen. So now I have two. I opened my cousin’s Heidi’s card and it was a redsox scratch ticket. John scratched it and it was a loser.
There was two sets of trivia cards from a sports trivia game. John had the baseball set in front of him so he was asking me questions. I knew a lot of them, even some he didn’t think I would. My grand father was sitting at the end of the table and so he got a few questions too. He got the answer to “Who beat out Ted Williams in 1941 for MVP the year Williams hit 406?”
My mom had the football questions in front of her so at some point she asked me a few of those. There was a lot of attention spent on my nephew. Kat was excited to show off the new tricks he can do. At 3 month and a week Holden is able to roll over. You can see he wants to crawl but cant figure it out. During dessert he was swimming on the dining room table. Well, moving his arms-legs and someone called it swimming. I held him for a bit and he loves when I flip him backwards, not a complete flip, just a big tilt back. He took my finger and sucked on it and yep, he has a tooth or two. I was singing to him the song I always sing to him. “take me out to the ball game” would you expect anything else? He is definitely one of the best babies I ever been around.
When my father and grand parents weren’t around my cousin Heidi asked me some very private questions about Nikki and I. Good thing I was on my second glass of sangria or I would have died. My aunt asked me where I slept when I went to NY. (I didn’t budge, I refused to say a thing even with Kat putting the guilt trip on me again about knowing everything about John’s relationship with Kat, sometimes even before she knew) I was redder than the redsox shirt I was wearing that day.
When John and Kat left, my father bringing my grand parents home, I went down stairs to play ski ball on the WE with my little cousin Jalen. Considering he is 10, he is a great kid to play games against. He would root me on when it was my turn and when I got a 10 (points go from 10 to 50 with a 100 on either of the upper corners) he would say “its alright, you will do better next time” *side note, even when we went bowling two weeks ago, after he handed me the ball, and set me up with the line after I got a gutter ball, he would say things like “go get them” or “You can do it”*
We both started pretty bad and as we played more, our scores would improve. We both knocked off my sister’s score and we were both cheering, rooting on each other. So my first score was a 110 I got as high as 240. J low was 13 and his high was 220.
He had to go but we had a fun time.
That was pretty much the story of my 31st birthday.
