Something, Something, Something... Dead Engine | 03/11/2010 |
 Car died on Tuesday.
I was driving on my way to work. Traffic slowed to a stop, and I with it. Car died. Started it back up, got moving again. Traffic slowed to a stop, again (no surprises). Car died. I started up again, pulled off the freeway, got to the corner of the exit ramp. Car died. Car would not start. Would not turn over. Made no noise when I turned the key.
So, I pushed my car, up a slight hill, to a Wal-Mart parking lot (the only thing Wal-Mart is any good for). I got a little help about halfway by two guys who happened to see me. Got parked, called the wife, got a tow to the mechanic's.
Took the wife's car to work. Got a call from the mechanic: All the oil in the engine had poured out, and the bearings melted. They could fix it, but the cost of the labor would be more than getting a new engine. So, I got a new engine. Or, I'm getting a new engine... they're not done yet.
So, $2700+ later, I'll have my car back... Hopefully sometime today... Hopefully...
